Munster Final 1992, Clare Vs Kerry

(Oldest Posts First)

Just looking back at this game. Was there any indication before this game that Clare could win? (Compare/contrast Leitrim in 1994, who most definitely were considered in with a shout.)

Not really but Clare were looking impressive under John Maughan
Kerry has beaten Cork by ten points I recall
I was at this game and it was one of the lowest points as a Kerry fan

However, Kerry had struggled big time against Limerick, both the year before in the final in Killarney and in Limerick in '92

Just got finished watching it. It was a great defensive performance by Clare, and Kerry just had no answer.

Kerry were going through a woefully barren period here, and I'd say this must have been (for them) the low point. Was there any good reason for their lack of All-Ireland success?

They held on to the old players as they were still winning
The youth development was kind of cast aside my Micko

It's hard to believe it's over a quarter of a century since someone other than Cork or Kerry won the Munster championship and 85 years to the next. Kerry have always had a massive advantage in playing in a province dominated by hurling with Cork picking up the odd title now and again. They really aught to have a lot more All Ireland's considering and have probably underachieved.

I would have thought Dublin, with well over a million people to draw from and only a small interest in hurling should have won many more All Irelands won. Remember Kerry gave . Also, Remember than had won something like eight All Irelands, before Kerry won their first

Kerry beat Clare in 1990 and 1991 in both matches by 13 points. In 1991 the Banner County conceded 5-16 to the Kingdom. This was a stunning victory for Clare. The only other Championship win that Clare had over Kerry was in 1949.
