Laochra Gael Tnag

Complaining about TG4's Laochra Gael just highlights the contrary nature of GAA people. Unbelieveable.

Brenda McAnesopie was a brilliant watch last night. It covered so much in just 1 hour.

Agreed. A true Laochra Geal and an extraordinary football family. Continued to excel despite the many obstacles and hardship that was put in front of her.

Missed it. Is there anywhere to watch it back?

It's repeated over the weekend. Not sure whether it's Saturday or Sunday.

Has Jack O'Shea ever appeared on Laochra Gael on TG4.

I don't think jacko has been on it I haven't seen it anyway. We had Declan Colm Dara o'cineda Star Moynihan páidí ó Sé had Rí an Pharóiste which was semilar to Laochra Gael. Maurice Fitzgerald hasn't been on it either , I seen something on Micko Connell but don't think it was Laochra Gael either. Pat Spillane hasn't featured either I'd say. Micko Dwyer has a program on him on RTÉ as well.

I think some people are forgetting the meaning of the word "Laochra" too. It means "warrior". It doesnt mean that you are " great" or that you are " the best". You can be a warrior without being skilful. In hurling I can think of Brendan Lynskey from my own county..... most definitely was a warrior for us in the 1980's team but also one of the least skilful players to play the game at the highest level during that period.

According to this he has. People might forget that it's actually been on for almost 20 years now.

From what i remember the format changed around 2012 or so to what it's like now. It may have only been half an hour before that

100% correct. I know alot of the modern episodes are available on TG4 player but would be great if the older episodes were made available to purchase. TG4 have always produced excellent programmes none more so than Laochra Gael.

Agreed. IMO some lads are taking the title of the show too literally, it's like claiming that all of the finals shown on "All-Ireland Gold" should be classics when many of them were anything but.

My two cents is that cult heroes as well as the garlanded elite have their place.

They should do one on the great Paddy Keenan from the Wonderful Wee County. Captain fantastic and Louth,s only All Star. He had a great attitude on and off the pitch.

Superman wears Paddy Keenan pyjamas!

Was re-reading The Road To 51 the other day and saw that Louth's All-Ireland winning side of 1957 had two Mayo men on it, Dan O' Neill and Seamus O'Donnell. They remain the most recent winners of Sam from the Yew County.

O' Neill was a garda stationed in Drogheda who declared for the Wee County after the Mayo County Board queried his expense claims. Seems like shooting ourselves in the foot is a cross-generational trait...

To be fair, every county has a right to query expense claims. Now, I know nothing about the O'Neill case (do you?), but maybe they had a good reason to query. By the way, as you probably know, Dan O'Neill returned to Mayo in 1963 and played his final county game for the team.
