No it wasn't on TV at all I was just watching highlights on YouTube, I remember Barr going to dublin as well, I'd say that time dublin were down the lower divisions so it would be hard to rate him.

Antrim had a good 3-4 year spell with that team so Gaillimh, Tipp gave gave them a bit of a beating in the final that year although the Antrim boys took skelps out of them if Im remembering properly, Pat fox and Nicky English got a few whacks from Nial Patterson, Jay's he was some size of a man.

He caused a major split in St Vincents when he transferred, i remember talking to some old vinnies stalwarts at the time and they were disgusted, never shone even at club level after that.

1985 semi-final, the first game between Kerry and Monaghan- cracking game from what i recall. The replay was more one sided to a degree. But drawn game was score for score Horsebox77 (Kerry) - Posts: 4877 - 31/03/2020 21:29:36 2275138 Link 2 |
Jayz, I believe I was at that one as well ! If memory serves me right the Bomber stood under his own crossbar in the vain hope of preventing a late late Monaghan equaliser from a 50. I do remember Monaghan brought massive support Maroonatic (Galway) - Posts: 947 - 01/04/2020 13:55:39 2275167 Link 1 |
The first game was a cracking game, Monaghan were a tidy side back then and put it up to a lot of teams. Kerry were lucky and just took the lead with time up with a cracking long range free from Mikey Sheehy, Monaghan won a free with time long gone about 70 yards out, the feeling was it was too far but the Monaghan forward stitched it, it was a cracking score worthy of the occasion. Yes it was McEneany. I recall an interview I heard were when he was lining up to it the ref said last kick and ironically Ambrose O'Donovan turned or Tommy Doyle and said we have it here boy - Ambrose said the look on Doyle's face when it cleared the black spot was just wow, Rosie said that one just had to sit back and admire it as a wonderful strike under pressure , a class free kick

You might get lucky with some highlights up on YouTube, there are definitely old black and white Pathé reels of All-Ireland finals, Mayo's wins in 1950 and 51 are up there anyway, fairly sure the Polo Grounds final in 1947 too.

What's today's match on TG4 at 3.25..? I'd like to see Kerry v Roscommon drawn National League Final 1974 or Armagh v Roscommon All-Ireland semi final 1980 when we got to the final on our fourth attempt having lost All Ireland semi finals in 1977( by 1 point in a replay),1978, and 1979( by 1 point). endgame (Roscommon) - Posts: 1275 - 12/04/2020 15:01:03 2275821 Link 0 |

There doing a a series of 'My favourite game' in the English newspaper The Guardian, where various journalists write about their favourite sports game. It covers all different sports.
