Just throwing this in to get you all thinking, we know the games TG4 normally throw up to us, Dublin V Mayo 2014 etc..Kilkenny and Tipp 2010 for example, all great games and worth their re-airing, but there are other games, not All Ireland semifinals or finals which were mighty contests and I would love to see again..here are the first few come to mind...1. Cork V Limerick drawn munster hurling semi-finals 1983 and replay 1987 - John Fenton got his "ivomec" goal of all time in the replay 2. Would love to see the 1993 leinster hurling final drawn game between wexford and Kilkenny, I had it on video when I was a kid, super wholehearted game. Bon (Kildare) - Posts: 979 - 23/03/2020 17:36:30 2274406 Link 0 |
Fantastic match! Two teams who really fancied their chances of going all the way that year. I think half the All Stars were picked from that match in the end. Haven't seen the full match in a long time so I'd welcome that one!

Yeah super stuff, a tough hard game, storey putting over line balls for fun, super score from Morrissey to equalise. Nail biting stuff.

Yes Meath V Kildare 1st replay in 1997 probably greatest match I was ever at. Kildare had fantastic players none more so than Niall Buckley at the time. Meath were all-Ireland champions with outstanding forwards but looked a little tired. Kildare seemed home and hosed until Jodie Devine stepped up to the plate. Legendary commentary from the great Jim Kearney made for wonderful entertainment. If only Leinster was anything like this now. As it turned out Offaly won Leinster while Kildare finally had their day 1998 only to lose to the great Galway team in the final. winatallcost (Meath) - Posts: 237 - 23/03/2020 19:46:51 2274421 Link 0 |

Cork V Kerry 1983 Munster football final...that was a great game of football... had Laois Kilkenny beaten in Leinster hurling championship around 1999 only for Kilkenny to steal it at the deathlike like other posters all classic games dont have to be All Ireland finals either... The 1978 final was better mick, mikeys goal and the bombers hatrick.

Personally I thought the 1982 final was the best of all. Despite the poor weather conditions there were incredible levels of skill displayed by both teams, including some of the best point scoring ever seen in Croke Park. Each of Offaly's three half backs kicked great points from play while the late, great Paidi managed two from wing back. Brendan Lowry, Tom Spillane, Matt Connor and Eoin Liston also had spectacular points. I watched a replay of the famous 1977 semi-final some time ago and I was amazed at the number of times players from both sides kicked the ball aimlessly, sometimes over the sideline. While it was a gripping contest between the two best teams of that era, I think the tremendous excitement of the closing ten minutes camouflaged what was otherwise an ordinary enough game, though it's probably heresy to say that.

The replay of the '91 MHF in Thurles. Cork were leading by 8 or 9 points with 15 minutes left. Aidan Ryan scored a fantastic goal to help seal victory. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://m.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3Dnm4dYQjF3JE&ved=2ahUKEwiZo9yj57PoAhUTQxUIHSr-C7MQwqsBMAF6BAgEEAQ&usg=AOvVaw0u8ILO739ha5a9AlPtt337. Tipp went on to defeat Kilkenny in the AI to lift the Liam Mccarthy cup. Coopers_Helmet (Tipperary) - Posts: 154 - 24/03/2020 19:21:50 2274539 Link 0 |
