The real heroes in these worrying times are our medical staff who are putting their own health in danger in the fight against Corona. They are in the front line and it takes some guts to carry out such a role. Many, many of these people are GAA members. It is impossible to put into words our gratitude and admiration for our medics. They have the respect of all. We must look after them and their families in every way possible. To our medical people I utter the words - please keep safe yourselves. gaelicgab (USA) - Posts: 871 - 21/03/2020 19:51:29 2274257 Link 9 |
I echo your sentiments about our wonderful health care professionals. However, I would just counter one of your points. They are not "the front line". We are the front line. We are the ones who can reduce the enormous pressure they are under by following fairly straightforward advice from our government and health authorities. In China, they got a handle on things in an extraordinary short period of time when you consider their massive population. The difference? They are a communist dictatorship who warned people to stay indoors or else take a bullet to the face. Obviously a similar approach cannot be taken in Ireland. But some people have gone above and beyond in terms of their own ignorance and stupidity to almost warrant such a deterrent. Lockjaw (Donegal) - Posts: 7075 - 22/03/2020 00:58:30 2274274 Link 3 |
Well said but truck drivers, cleaners, retail staff, essential utility and infrastructure staff and engineers are also hero's of this crisis....basically another working out there who have to continue working...not everyone can work nice and safer from home. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 10339 - 22/03/2020 21:59:40 2274328 Link 13 |
Scary job. Anyone deemed "essential" has to be extra careful.

Saw a video of the new hospital built for Covid in the UK today, its 1km long and will hold 4000 bed and 2 morgs, it took only a few weeks to build. KingdomBoy1 (Kerry) - Posts: 11732 - 26/03/2020 21:15:55 2274786 Link 0 |
its the Excel exhibition centre, existing structure, just been kitted out as an emergency hospital. Its where Katie Taylor won her gold medal. All the hard work by those working in the healthcare system, but still not being paid the money they should be, should be a priority of the next government to ensure these people are looked after. Not sure how many saw the program on the NHS workers after the Tonight Show last night on Virgin TV. It was scary stuff, with most of the overworked staff fearing for their own lives and that of their families, so yes these wonderful people are the real heroes, and we are forever indebted to them. gilly1910 (Galway) - Posts: 102 - 27/03/2020 10:38:39 2274812 Link 0 |

Oh fair enough, they didn't say it was an existing structure on the video. And if FF and FG join up then the health care workers won't get much and that's for sure. KingdomBoy1 (Kerry) - Posts: 11732 - 27/03/2020 18:20:31 2274846 Link 0 |
It's sad that most of the real heroes of this crisis-with the possible exception of doctors- are lowly paid. Gleebo (Mayo) - Posts: 1803 - 27/03/2020 20:37:55 2274850 Link 1 |
