Replying To Tirchonaill1:  "I think the Championship will go ahead, there's the mental health of the people to consider as well, after a few weeks it will soon be whittled down to the last 4 big guns anyway, I can see Tyrone v Dublin, Mayo v Kerry.
yerra yerra I think Tyrone will have too much for us the next day, Mickey was shadow boxing today."
I think you're right but the shadow boxing has led to a problem. They'll have to go to Castlebar to play a Mayo team that surprised everyone and would have surprised Tyrone yesterday. Lose that one they're down as Monaghan will beat Meath; that wouldn't have been in Tyrone's plan. At the same time I strongly fancy Tyrone to win in Ballybofey when it matters, it's all set up for them.

Don't know. Tyrone needed to win that game yesterday. Some of the subs won't do ,missed too many frees. Donegal looked the part and didn't waste much . Mc Kenna was a big plus for first game back.

I think you are wrong to be honest. Donegal had the highest rate in Ireland, even surpassing Dublin, just a few weeks ago and were rightfully placed in Level 3. We've now gone to four since last week and numbers are down from 50+ a day to just 14 yesterday. The current restrictions need to be given a chance and 40 lads heading to another county to play a game isn't going to be the difference in beating Covid 19 transmission.
The reality is that after the first round of games 16 teams are out of football and numbers diminishing with each round.
It's like the Green Party looking for us to cut emissions and making out that if Ireland does this then then global warming will stop. The GAA is as small a player in overall Covid transfer as Ireland is to Global warming!

Now I realize that this could come back to bite me, but I just don't think Tyrone have the forwards to beat us. McShane is out and there's no sign of Brennan or Bradley. Assuming we have McBrearty and Langan to come back I just think our superior attacking options will see us home.

You have a point but I don't think Tyrone were anywhere near top gear yesterday, I think they'd rather win Ulster than worry about a season coasting through Div 2,
I don't like the way we have been letting leads slip in games now for a few years, we are 4 or 5 points up with maybe 5 mins left then we go to sleep and concede a goal and put ourselves under pressure,
used to be in Jim's time if we were a point or 2 up we shut the door and closed the game out, it's a bad habit to have, we just need to be more ruthless.

I wouldn't know enough about the two teams but you're right in Tyrone aren't as strong up front than they have been. However I'd say Tyrone haven't had a strong panel for a decade but somehow MH has kept them in Div 1 and playing the latter stages of the championship. He wouldn't have showed his plans or system yesterday and won't show it in Castlebar either. November football will suit Tyrone and whilst I don't have too much to back up my opinion I get the feeling MH will have a system set up that suits the time of year and smaller pitch in Ballybofey to get over the line.

Yeah you could be right, like I don't think there is a chance they'll be as poor as they were yesterday. We are very strong in Ballybofey. We've only lost there once in league and championship in 10 years. But yes, you've guessed it, that one defeat came against Tyrone in the 2018 Super 8s.

I'm sure Declan Bonner won't be reading too much into yesterday's match. It was nice to confirm Div 1 status for next year but he'll know that another gear or two will need to be reached in 2 weeks time,

This is a recorded interview below ofl outh senior captain Bevan Duffy on radio yestersday after louths league game v Cork. He is very critical l of the GAA and the handling of everything so regard the virus.

https://twitter.com/LMFMRADIO/status/1318108010330411009

He said basically he cannot understand how with cases going up how GAA think the GAA players are immune to this. He said there is lot of the louth players who are teachers, allot of the Louth players are living at home with elderly parents. He siad It doesnt make any sense what the GAA are doing. He said allot of former players seem to be driving the push for a championship , he said they are writing articles and have there TV gigs. He said there was no testing at all , he cannot understand this , on the Louth panel no one has being tested. He says every team should be tested before the league started. He says if they did this it would take pressure of and ease the players minds becauase they are worried. He says if someone gets postive in next week, the players are going all over louth and back to Cork. He cannot understand zero testing in the GAA. The radio presenter said in response he was shocked also to hear there has been no testing of the louth players. The louth captain responded by saying people say its not coming from GAA team, he says if players are not tested you wouldnt get positive tests. He said hopefully with the GPA results survey that will get the players voice out there. He says players have to be tested, but there has be no testing. He said even some testing has to done. He said its not right, its not right to put this burden on amateur players. He said the GAA players are not professionals like rugby players and professional soccer players. They can go into bubbles and they get paid. He said GAA players are amateurs. He said player have day to day jobs and are mingling with everyone else in places like shops, GAA players are not in a bubble.
Bevan Duffy louth senior captain was talking to LMFM radio.

Theres is allot of rumours going around allot of the counties especially top counties in hurling and football or not testing their players before training or matches. From the Louth Captain his team have not got any testing. If your going championship you have to be testing the players if not its recipe for disaster. Soccer and rugby players are in bubbles and tested very regularly.

According to the irish times today it said that one government said to them thaat"The GAA championship should be called off," said a government Minister. "This is an exceptional situation for amateur players. You cannot have people in their own bubbles at the weekend and then working as plumbers or doctors on Monday."
The rumours are cabinet is split on GAA championship, it could be called be off or it could go ahead. Will find out later this evening.

Thanks for the heads up there furlong. Good to see your looking after the welfare of players. The word rumours comes up a lot in your post. Rumours are rumours, not facts.

I read somewhere today where the question was asked how come the hospital numbers and deaths were so much lower now than in March/April at the first big lockdown,
the answer was that there was far more virus about at that time but it wasn't detected because the testing wasn't up to speed, the article said the level could have been 10 times or maybe 50 times higher than reported at the time.
Ok so that all seems plausible, my question is, if it was 10 and up to 50 times more widespread at the time how come it seemed to die out so quick? it's said to be very infectious, much more so than ordinary colds and flus.
if the testing had been the same in March according to this theory we'd have been getting daily positive figures something like 5 or 10000 cases per day, so I can't figure out how it died away so quick if it's so highly infectious?
I suppose the big lockdown helped but it seems to me it faded away very quick, hope the same happens again now.
Level 5 means no sport at all is that right? It's going to be one miserable November.

The talk is Level 5 but with GAA matches going ahead, construction going ahead, click and collect retail.

Somewhere between Level 4 and 5 in reality.

Guess we'll know in a couple of hours.

Furlong that post made me smile :) As a neutral if I'm allowed to comment! I'd say 1996 taught Tyrone and a few other teams a lot. Tyrone were never kicked off the park again and when teams moved to the gyms and good conditioning it's no coincidence Meath fell from the top very quickly and haven't returned to the top table in 20 years. Yes Meath won that day but time is a great thing and Tyrone ultimately learnt more from it; it was the day the country caught onto Meath; it took a few years to get conditioning in place but when it was Meath were gone.

I think the government has totally fudged the decision on the Championship going ahead. They've put the ball in the GAA's court. Woeful stuff from our supposed leadership. Now don't get me wrong, and I know it's very selfish of me, but I would love it if the games can go ahead. But we elect our leadership to lead, not to pass the buck. They just do not want to be the bad guys/spoil sports in this situation

Not bother in the slightest about 96. We've had plenty of good days since and bad. You mentioned rumours twice by the way but it was mostly He said, he said. But sure you got your dig at the GAA anyways.

The GAA should pull the plug on the 2020 championship. I think it will create a lot of bad pr following a good few weeks of already bad pr for them if their 'elite' players can go swanning around the country while everyone else be potentially fined for going 5km away from your house. Plus it gives a boost to the government for it to go ahead, an 'ah this will keep some of the boggers' happy scenario while they're trapped inside their house until next spring, because make no mistake, this virus isn't going to magically disappear after six weeks of lockdown. The minute things open up again it would flare up. And we repeat and repeat and repeat.

It's 5 weeks since the published this covid roadmap, and already it means nothing, even when it came out they had Dublin at half a level higher than was stated (there are no half levels)
now they say we are going to level 4 plus a half or level 5 minus a half, if you are still with me, it's a total fudge as you say by an incompetent government.
closing the shops here in Donegal will just send everyone into Derry and Strabane, places with the highest level of virus in Ireland, pity we hadn't some brains at leadership level.

If the weekends football told us something, it's how professional the GAA really are. Other sports could take a lesson from them. They were brilliant and that's all teams.
