I don't understand why Leinster are going out of their way to help Kerry hurling. Surely this should be done by Munster? Cockney_Cat (UK) - Posts: 1115 - 26/02/2020 10:41:30 2270257 Link 1 |
It's ridiculous there are a whole host of counties in Leinster which badly need help. By my reckoning there are only about nine of them at present. Sort them as a priority first.

Well, Munster don't seem to be doing much to help them..... ;) Pikeman96 (Wexford) - Posts: 410 - 26/02/2020 13:13:15 2270298 Link 0 |
once cork,tipp,waterford,limerick and clare are ok,the munster council couldn't give a toss. perfect10 (Wexford) - Posts: 3841 - 26/02/2020 13:28:45 2270303 Link 1 |
I don't agree with the difference between relegation rules in the 2 provinces but let's not pretend Kerry are innocent victims here as they try their best to pull ladders up all over the place in Munster football

Lads seriously..... Can anyone give a reasonable, unbiased or logical reason why Kerry could or should be playing in the Leinster provincial championship? Ej (Wexford) - Posts: 352 - 26/02/2020 19:42:10 2270371 Link 0 |
Someone had a good 6+5 system a while back where Kerry would go into a 6 team Munster if they won JoeMcD

Once Leinster expands to 6 then the pressure will come onto Munster to do the same. Should be the target for hurling to get to at least 12 teams playing championship. carlovia (None) - Posts: 1187 - 26/02/2020 20:52:48 2270385 Link 0 |
Why not just let them in anyway?

So if Congress agrees to a 6 team Leinster championship and Kerry win the Joe MCD what happens then?

There's a good chance they will win it this year. The lad Conway is a proper talent.

And there are another 2 lads Barry Mahony and Donal O Sullivan every bit as good as Conway who are currently on the Kerry under 20 football team and who will join up with the hurlers for the Joe McDonagh cup in May. Savage underage work going on in Kerry in hurling at the minute, munster should not close the door on them. Past hurler (None) - Posts: 285 - 26/02/2020 22:34:32 2270404 Link 0 |
Agreed. I think Croke Park should pump a lot of money into the teams that are very close to making the breakthough. Laois, Kerry, Carlow, Westmeath, Antrim. Get these 5 counties up to Liam McCarthy level Long term and make expand the championship for the future. I was going to include Offaly but they seem to want to do their own thing. Put in losing finalists along with them. As long as its Carlow ! carlovia (None) - Posts: 1187 - 26/02/2020 23:24:33 2270413 Link 0 |
As stated above, the motion going to Congress still contains the provision that if Kerry win the Joe McDonagh Cup, they play off against the bottom team in Munster, for a place in the following year's Munster Championship. So nothing changes in that respect. Wonder what's Kerry's own view on this thing? Would they actually welcome the opportunity to play in a six-team Munster championship, the way that the likes of Laois/Carlow/Westmeath/Offaly/Antrim would be aiming to keep a place in a six-team Leinster championship? Or are they happy enough to stay at a lower level? Pikeman96 (Wexford) - Posts: 410 - 27/02/2020 09:21:01 2270434 Link 0 |
So Kerry in all probability would stay in 2nd tier. The runner up will automatically get promoted to the 1st tier because the Leinster championship is expanded to 6 teams. I asked previously on here whether Kerry would want to join the Munster championship. With a few "leave Munster alone" knucklehead exceptions from outside the county it was a resounding yes. So untrue. Would love to see kerry be competitive in Munster. Im glad the GAA are being proactive on the likelihood of Kerry gaining promotion. That said they have to play westmeath and Carlow in the JMD who have some division 1 time under their belts now.

Ide be happy to let Kerry in and have 2 x 6 groups but it may not be what's best for Kerry hurling. Let's see if they are actually good enough to win JoeMcD and then have that conversation
