Unfortunately from a Donegal perspective be touch and go whether those players will be back. Oisin Gallen might have a chance if Donegal reach the latter stages of the championship. However think Conor O'Donnell is definitely not going to make it back given nature of his injury. Despite being down 2 of their best players think there won't be much between Donegal and your lads. One thing about Shaun Paul Barrett's sides is that they will be incredibly fit and defend in numbers so will be hard to beat. This style of play would not be for everybody myself included but it has been effective for him.

There was very little between Tyrone and Donegal at the various age categories including at under 17. Tyrone did beat Donegal in the first round of Ulster on their way to winning the All Ireland 3 years ago but Donegal gave them plenty despite been depleted of some of their best players. Just a shame going to be the case again this time.

We've some more then hopeful prospects in this team individually and some impressive run outs yesterday, team seems a bit bigger then last year, how it all gels together is in the lap of the god really. The scoreline flattered us a bit and Longford were value for a fair stake into game up until half time. Hard to draw to many conclusions as the conditions were very very difficult. I believe Roscommon will come out of Connaught, Tyrone out of Ulster, Kerry out of Munster and I am not sure who will come out of Leinster. rossno1 (Roscommon) - Posts: 273 - 16/02/2020 13:34:41 2267939 Link 0 |

Not sure what the laugh is here.Galway will beat Leitrim and the Connacht Final will be Galway v Roscommon in Tuam on March 7.I'd expect a close Final.Roscommon beat Galway in the U17 Final 3 years ago but it was tight and I wouldn't expect much between the teams this year either. If Galway win Connacht, the best of luck to them in the All-Ireland series.Tyrone won the U17 All-Ireland Title in 2017 beating Roscommon in the Final in Croke park.

17's means nothing. Dubs will continue dominating. Might lose the odd final or semi final LeitrimRoyal99 (Meath) - Posts: 833 - 22/02/2020 15:43:17 2269018 Link 7 |
With respect I have to disagree, Dublin will and should always be competitive at this level, but they won't dominate, they were beaten by 8 points the last to years, by Kildare and Cork, both winners of the competition. Only Burglar has come through from those two years, maybe Archer and Coffey (is it? ) will too The dominant U21 team from 17 has 5 or 6 on the current squad. I don't see them dominating this year either, the winners of the three provinces won't fear them if they do come through. Meath shouldn't fear them either. Hard luck to our lads yesterday, losing on penalties in very difficult conditions, next year we should be competing for honours and won't fear a rattle at Dublin Keep the faith mhunicean_abu (Monaghan) - Posts: 803 - 23/02/2020 11:21:01 2269227 Link 0 |
Not a satisfactory way to go out for Monaghan or any team Westmeath included earlier in the week. While of course it is Donegal that came through the right side of it the minimum any team and set up deserve after the effort they put in is a replay. Indeed ye will probably be stronger the next couple of years but I doubt there be much between the sides again. Just a shame from our own perspective that the injury situation is getting worse rather than better.

Surprising win for us yesterday in Parnell, was expecting a much tricker game many of this Meath team would have beaten this same group at minor, some very nice players in this team to have hopes around, really impressed by no 11 Lorcan O Dell and one or two others who wouldn't have a high profile as lads like Swan and Archer. Good mix of scorers throughout the team. TheUsername (Dublin) - Posts: 3671 - 23/02/2020 14:55:16 2269282 Link 4 |
That's very noble of you, considering we would more than likely have won the replay :) In all honesty if Donegal had all their talent available to them they would be serious contenders to win this out. They still may, if they can manage to struggle their way through Ulster. Huge incentive, a possible meeting with the Dubs in Croke Park on Paddy's Day (Although Laois might have different ideas on that). Result of the weekend in this competition was Antrim beating Derry

Not sure about being noble just saying it as it is. I was not at the game Saturday so cannot comment on who would win a replay but you are probably right Monaghan would be warm favourites. Looking forward there is a chance Gallen might make it back for a final or AI semi final but will be needed if indeed we get beyond Down. If we did have our full compliment we be there or thereabouts but always hard to predict at this level. Some interesting comments from Anthony Moyles in relation to preparation of the Meath lads compared to Dublin. The Dublin lads are strictly with their own age group. One of the few counties who can afford this luxury. panamasam (Australia) - Posts: 2458 - 24/02/2020 14:18:05 2269745 Link 1 |
Kerry have named their team for Munster semi final and have plenty of quality with some very strong players to come off the bench. Dylan Geaney, Sean Quilter, Colm Moriarty and Eddie Horan were all fancied to start but will come off the bench. Possibly being kept in reserve for Munster final the week after but hopefully just selecting on form. macruiskeen (UK) - Posts: 35 - 26/02/2020 12:07:05 2270285 Link 0 |
Cannot help you mac but I did see Clare under twenties recently in a challenge and was impressed by them so probably a decent win by Cork. As always at underage level difficult to gauge. Going back to the Clare team McInerney looks a very exciting prospect. He was excellent the night I seen him play and got a decent score haulage against Cork I seen.

Galway play Roscommon this Saturday, at u17 stage in 2017 Roscommon beat Galway by a goal but Galway were missing some of their best players because they were starting in the minor final the next day. TheBishop (Galway) - Posts: 60 - 02/03/2020 16:35:32 2271727 Link 1 |
Two players Galway were missing and Roscommon were missing a number of players for that final 3 years ago. Looks like Roscommon will be missing a number of starters for Saturdays final due to injury while Galway will be full strength and with home advantage it will be a surprise if this Connacht U20 title isn't retained by Galway. I can see nothing but a Roscommon win this weekend, just too much for a young Galway team with very very standout senior players. Roscommon to win by 6-7 points and I normally would never predict such a convincing win for Roscommon over a Galway team but this is a good Roscommon team.

The "young" team is a little over played by Galway folk who are trying to pull the wool over the rossies eyes (no pun intended) this Galway u20 is filled with recent minors that reach AI finals are were competitive in those finals. I admire your optimism but it seems a little misplaced especially when Roscommon won't have their strongest hand for this final. Gaa_lover (USA) - Posts: 2516 - 02/03/2020 20:03:58 2271783 Link 0 |
