Kildare are the only team to knock out the three previous All Ireland Champions in one season. They did this in 1998. They beat Dublin (1995 All Ireland Champions) in the Leinster quarter-finals, beat Meath (1996 All Ireland Champions) in the Leinster final and beat Kerry (1997 All Ireland Champions) in the All Ireland semi-final. That was a great Kildare side. Buckley, Ryan, Rainbow, Earley, Kerrigan, Lacey all top players. They beat both Dublin and Kerry by a point that year but were unlucky to come up against a great Galway side in the final. In any other year they probably would have taken a deserved Sam.

It sure was Joxer. After my beloved Wee County, I have a soft spot for the lilywhites. In 1998 it was the first time Kildare won the Leinster Championship since 1956 and the first time that they had reached the All Ireland final since 1935. In that same year when they had beaten the Dubs, it was the first time since 1972 that they had knocked Dublin out of the Championship. Likewise with Meath, it was the first time since 1978 that they had knocked out the Royals out of the Championship. You have to go back even longer till 1927 when they last beaten Kerry before 1998.

Yeah Micko instilled some belief in them and I remember the Leinster Final replay of 2000 well when the Dubs fell apart in the first few mins of the second half when Kildare took a second Leinster in as many years. Galway pipped them again in 00 in the semi. Dublin then went through a barren spell and didn't win another Leinster until 07 I think. Goes to show the difference a manager can make, instilling that confidence and belief, similar to Paidi with Westmeath or Davy Fitz with Wexford. They'd a very good side. Johnny Doyle came on the scene in 2000 just 2 or 3 years too late I think. Had he been in his prime 98-00 they may have bagged a Sam or two.

The Dubs won a Leinster in 2002 after beating Kildare in the final. It was their first Leinster title since 1995.

Spot on. We actually beat Kildare in 02. I thought we had a gap at that stage but we won it again in 05. The memory is dimming with age. :)

Leinster was great between 1995 and 2004. You had six different winners. Kildare and Laois won it after many years in the wilderness. Westmeath won it for the very first time in 2004. Offaly won the Leinster Championship in 1997 while they were in Division four at that time. The Dubs won the All Ireland in 1995 for the first time since 1983 and what can I say about Sean Boylans great Meath teams that won All Ireland's in 1996 and 1999. 1996 was sweet as the Royals were written off. Kildare reached An Ireland for the first time in 63 years in 1998. There were some great matches with the Dubs and Meath, Dubs and Kildare and who could forget the three match saga between Kildare and Meath in 1997? My beloved Louth team were very unlucky not to reach a Leinster final in the 1990's. They lost 6 Leinster semi-finals in that decade.

Have Dublin won the Leinster Senior Title on every year ending in 5 since Wexford won it in '45?

Said in an earlier post that they have never won the All-Ireland in a year ending in 0. Looks like that trend could go on if this Corona lasts.

Yes they have. They won in 55, 65, 75, 85, 95, 05 and 15. I was at the last 4 of these starting with Laois in 85. Meath broke Dublin's run the following year to go and win 3 Leinsters in a row.
