Patrick Nally was a member of the Supreme Council of the Irish Republican Brotherhood and well-known Connacht athlete from Balla, Co Mayo. It was Nally who suggested to Michael Cusack the idea for what would become the Gaelic Athletic Association. In 1881, he was sentenced to ten years imprisonment in Mountjoy for what became known as the 'Crossmolina Conspiracy' where he was subjected to harsh treatment. Nally died in prison in November 1891, and the resultant Nally GAA Club in Dublin would be closely associated with working class Fenians in the 1890s. The Nally stand/terrace is named after Nally, and is unique for being the only stand in the stadium named after a person who had no connection to the Gaelic Athletic Association. In January 2003 the Nally stand was dismantled and found a new home at the grounds of the famous Tyrone club, Carrickmore. Still don't know why the stand was not moved to Balla..?" Bray Emmets entered the Dublin championship as Wicklow had no championship of their own at the time. They won the Dublin championship and went to win the all ireland as 'Dublin'." Just came across a few useless facts on a site there: 1. Oulu Elks GAA are the first GAA club inside the Arctic Circle Set up this in 2013 by a Donegal man called Cathaoir Sóna. Their neighbouring clubs are in Helsinki, 600km away and in Tallinn in Estonia. 2. The earliest record of hurling in North America comes from the 1780s By 1845 people were banned from playing it on the narrow streets of Quebec City as it was considered too dangerous. As an aside, some believe that the origins of Ice Hockey came from hurling. 3. They play Hurloween in Milwaukee each year at Halloween - where as you have probably guessed, the teams dress up in Fancy Dress and play a game of hurling. Dublin are the only team to play London and the 31 other counties in the Championship. Twelve of these teams have never beaten the Dubs in the Championship. These are Antrim, Cavan, Clare, Fermanagh, Kilkenny, Leitrim, London, Monaghan, Roscommon, Sligo, Waterford and Wicklow. Limerick is the only team that the Dubs have never beating in the Championship. No team has beating the Dubs more times in the Championship than Meath have with twenty wins. It might eat anything but that's not to say it would be around too long after. Mouldy hay for instance - might eat that but good chance it will kill it. If you shout abuse at a cat for ten minutes it will burst in to flames. Don't believe me - try it! Best though to find a cat out in the street and do it in public rather than do it to your own cat and risk burning your house down.....
