Well done to Limerick and Wicklow on their respective promotion. Delighted for our lads. Yes Limerick did beat us, but it's a bit mad that Wicklow finish with a score difference of +39 and Limerick finish with a score difference of Zero, yet Limerick finish Champions of the Division. Congratulations to Wicklow on getting promotion. Davey Burke is making a name for himself. Has won AI u20 with Kildare, Kildare county title with Sarsfields and now promotion with Wicklow. TheUsername (Dublin) - Posts: 3671 - 24/10/2020 19:57:42 2300931 Link 1 |

Wicklow would be champions on score difference but alas its head to head results that count. ONdeDITCH (Limerick) - Posts: 428 - 24/10/2020 22:51:23 2300999 Link 0 |
Wicklow certainly improved performance wise as the year went ahead. I feel an improved club championship here in Wicklow helped preparations. We have a good bunch of players now and coming through which along with a management set up that the players believe in certainly helped. Looking forward now to Division 3 and building on progress already made. 61123 (Wicklow) - Posts: 153 - 25/10/2020 09:30:12 2301060 Link 1 |
Absolutely agree I feel with a nice crop of young players coming through Wicklow have something to really play for and maintain in Division 3. Limerick Wicklow Fermanagh Cavan Derry Longford Tipperary Offaly No easy games there for us. 14 points 5 was enough for Offaly to stay up. We'll target that for a start. A lot will depend on what way the fixtures are next year vis a vis club v county. Will it be the same format as is this year. Will county managers have more time with their squads next year ? In relation to our prospects next year in the year, it will indeed be tougher but I think we are a better team, we have a good backroom team and there are more players to come on board next year.

Pity there wasn't a proper league final to see the outright winner, ah sure ourselves and Wicklow we might meet in next season's Division 3 final that will settle it ;). As for now I will congratulate our footballers for winning the Division 4 and well done billy lee on the job he is doing for Limerick football. Well done RTE on showing Div 4 games last night and some small bit of analysis. Nice to see the 'small' league given a wee bit of recognition. 61123 (Wicklow) - Posts: 153 - 26/10/2020 08:39:44 2301466 Link 2 |
Congratulations to the promoted teams and a hand for all the teams in this division who like the minnows in hurling represent their counties with pride while working as hard as the big names. I am sure my county will give it their all against Limerick. One of the two will be out soon and football will go on the back burner again for them. I was waiting to see if any comments or discussion would get aired on these teams especially Waterford and you have. Plenty of discussion when it was negativity about the Antrim game. I said at the time we would be out of the championship within a week and would not even get a mention after that. The people on here have zero interest in Waterford football except when there was some mud to be flung. A bit like the elites in hurling. In fact some probably don't even know where the county is. Benji Whelan has moved on after given it his best shot. He brought a professional attitude to preparation and got a lot more players involved while moving out some who were there just for the ride. You are correct it is a tough task trying to keep the show on the road in division 4 when the tunnel seems to have no end. Canuck (Waterford) - Posts: 979 - 13/11/2020 00:13:23 2308229 Link 0 |
There's no sour grapes here or do I have an axe to grind with the elite or strong counties, just to say Carlow didn't get one mention, Wicklow got a mention but only because they conceded 7 goals to Meath and because it was Meath they were playing that helped a bit, Longford barely got a mention, Laois not much more, Leitrim did however but for the Covid reason, Sligo took a few raps but that was covid related too. Waterford, Antrim, and Limerick got a mention however that was by their own respective posters, so the GAA family here is apparently more fragmented than united, certainly not supportive of the weaker counties. When the results of Kildare / Meath - Galway / Mayo - Dublin / Laois- Cavan / Down and Donegal / Armagh I'm quiet sure each of those counties will get more than a mention, match tracker included. The dependency on the weaker counties to continuously make up the numbers wont and can't last. I and others couldn't help but notice since the roll out and the completion of the first season of the Super 8's that an element of snobbery has started to creep in and is gaining momentum. I asked a few posts ago if there was any info on the 2020 Gaa All Stars, because no one bothered to reply, I asked Mr Google, he tells me The GAA and the GPA are in the early stages of planning for the 2020 all stars to be honoured in Feb. of next year, provided the Championship is concluded in Dec. just wondering if Carlow, Wicklow, Wexford, Longford, Antrim, Sligo who lost out in the first round will get the same chance of an all star nomination as Kerry and Tyrone who also lost out in the first round to date. The great Micky Harte has called time on his long and successful career as Tyrone manager, so personally, I would like to wish him and his family well and indeed his beloved Tyrone. ` supersub15 (Carlow) - Posts: 2161 - 13/11/2020 22:39:24 2308559 Link 2 |
Kerry and Tyrone won't get All-Stars this year.

I think you missed his point. Would players from these counties ever be considered for an All Star never mind been picked.
Canuck (Waterford) - Posts: 979 - 14/11/2020 13:28:53 2308666 Link 0 |
Probably not. Most All-Stars are given out to players for teams who reach the latter knockout stages. Attacking people from the "elite" counties is not going to help your cause. Your own former manager highlighted the problems with Waterford football. The lure of hurling and a poor underage structure.

The selection of all stars has changed over the years. Realistically it is supposed to be the best 15 players over the course of the year. That's why years ago the league winners would get a couple of all stars or even players that were ko D early in the championship. Now it's all about winners and semi finalists etc. If a player got motm award in semi and final he d prob get an all star even if he never played any other fame all year. Basically the all stars now are picked on the last 2 or 3 games of the championship.
