NFL Division 3

Yesterday confirmed me for me that cork will run away with division 3.

Literal game of two halves, we potentially should have had them dead and buried in first half and I'd like to have saw us take a 4/5 point lead into the break which would have given us a solid chance.

I think we showed enough to prove now that we are genuine contenders for second place and I'll be disappointed if we dont at least have a chance to secure it on the last day. And that was without a few of our big names putting in performances and a few young lads still adjusting to the pace physicality of intrrocunty senior. More progress made on top of last year.

Listening to the game, Offaly were better team in first half. Faded away in second half. Things to note.
Offaly need a reliable free taker, a lot of scorable frees missed, and possibly one or two goal chances not taken.
Offaly did not finish as strong as Cork, playing 4 games in a row might account for this.
Who played well for Offaly last night?. It's Longford in Tullamore this day week, we need to win that.
Leitrim got a draw in Derry last night, good result for them.

Two draws in the first round of games leave this division very open. You'd have to expect Cork are automatic choice to go up and then it's a battle for the second spot. Leitrim defied the experts and should have beaten Derry

I wouldn't even bet on Cork progressing from Division 3 on this display. The result hinged a lot on Offaly's black card. During the time they had an advantage in numbers, Cork got a grip, which they did not let go afterwards.

Replying To Young_gael:  "Derry v Leitrim: I predict Derry will get promoted this season, so I will give them the win by 5/6 pts. Leitrim will play nice football but won't be able to cope with the defensive style Derry will bring. I think many teams in this division will struggle against it so Derry to have a good league.

Cork v Offaly: Cork are the obvious choice to win this division this season but Offaly are a fine side. I watched them play Meath in Navan in the LSC last season and if they had a functioning forward line, they would have won by 3/4 pts. In every other facet of the game, they were very competitive. They could be an outside bet for promotion. Still, Cork to win by 5.

Longford v Louth: I have a soft spot for the wee county but think this will be a tough game to call for them. Longford at full strength are a strong team so they should win by 2/3. Longford are another dark horse to pull off upsets, particularly at home.

Tipperary v Down: A very close game. Down should take credence from their display vs. Mayo last season and look to push on another level. This game will be a 3/4 pt victory either way, Tipp have recent experience at Div.2 level so they may well push on in this game.

It's very close on paper but I predict Cork and Derry to win promotion.
My ham-fisted final table prediction (which I'll likely regret): Cork, Derry, Offaly, Down,Longford, Tipperary, Louth, Leitrim."
Longford are missing 9 starters so are very far off been at full strength. Good win for them today considering that.

Great point above in Celtic Park for us. Nobody (incl the vast majority of our own support) gave us any kind of chance but fair play to the team and management for the performance and result. Some exceptional individual performances. We were unlucky not to come away with the 2 points but this point could be huge and is definitely a bonus. We were missing probably 3 nailed on starters in O Rourke, Mulvey and Plunkett with Pearce Dolan also missing out who will be there or thereabouts i would think.

To stay in Div 3 would be an unbelievable achievement but we still have a mountain of work to do. Weeks 4 & 5 are going to be crucial for us with Offaly coming to Carrick and we then visit Louth. They are the weeks that will seal our fate i believe.

After Saturday i cannot wait to welcome Cork to Carrick this Sunday. Cork are by far and away the best team in the division in my view so i am looking forward to seeing how our lads match up against them.

Great win for Down last night, this should set them up for rest of league to go all out for promotion on other hand id say derry our gone already with 1 point in opening 2 games and having to travel to Cork later on i can't see them challenging for promotion.

Huge weekend for division three. Things will be a lot clearer in relation to promotion come sunday evening. Louth and leitrim are in serious trouble already and I dont envisage this changing too much over the next 5 games.

We need to kick on this week if we are to be in the hunt for promotion and avoid tier 2. We have our usual few abscenes but a slightly deeper panel than this time a year ago so hopefully we will have a bit to spare against the wee county. Expect it to be close until the last 15 with louth fighting for their lives already but we should have the extra threat up front to see it out.

Derry v Tipperary - derry by 2
Longford v Leitrim, longford by 7
Louth v Offaly, offaly by 5
Cork v Down, cork by 5
