Your being a bit kind to us I think! I'd take a 1 point victory Sunday, just need to get a win and kickstart the season! Awful weather promised so I don't expect it to be pretty. I'm hopeful that Ros can get over the line in this one, our next game is away to Kildare so a result Sunday is vital. In the other games I predict wins for Kildare, Fermanagh and Laois. with the weather there will probably be cancellations which will probably mean that come the end of the league there will be extra games to be played and maybe dead rubbers which wont be played and also you might have the scenario whereby teams have an advantage by knowing exactly what they have to do. s goldrick (Cavan) - Posts: 5356 - 07/02/2020 10:48:34 2265899 Link 0 |
Could they not play them next week as it's a free week in the league? Douglas_44 (Roscommon) - Posts: 221 - 07/02/2020 10:52:40 2265900 Link 1 |

I'd say any games cancelled will be played next weekend

The weather forecast for the weekend seems to be getting worse all the time. I'd rather games be called off the weekend than go ahead in gale force winds. Nothing worse than watching two teams trying trying to play football in a storm. Anyone that was at the Roscommon vs Mayo game last year in the league will remember that. It was horrible to watch. dave1988 (Roscommon) - Posts: 591 - 07/02/2020 17:28:01 2265995 Link 1 |
Don't think I'll ever forget that night! Worst conditions I've ever seen a game played in.

The weather for 2011 Connacht final played in July was just as bad. No harm if its called off Sunday, as said already next weekend is free plus we might have 2 or 3 of of our injury players returning to action if it was played Sunday week. I'd expect the game to go ahead and to be played in dreadful conditions. I'd gladly take a lucky 1 point win for Roscommon. ispeakwisdom (Roscommon) - Posts: 2410 - 07/02/2020 19:53:21 2266022 Link 2 |

This division is a very odd one. You could be a win or a loss from getting promoted or relegated on the last day of the league the way it's going. Strange how Armagh thrash Cavan, Laois beat Armagh well, and then Cavan thrash Laois. Maybe Laois were not as good as we thought, and maybe Cavan were just caught out the first day against Armagh and were not as poor as thought. Very interesting anyway, should see a bit more from the games next weekend. Can still see things very tight and not much between top and bottom there Loughduff Lad (Cavan) - Posts: 986 - 17/02/2020 12:40:40 2268134 Link 0 |
something happened at half-time in the Cavan dressing room against Westmeath which was reminiscient of Pairc Taltain in Navan a few years ago. Cavan have been a different team since. Laois always seem to have the upperhand over Armagh for some reason. I would say Armagh Kildare and A Roscommon team who were not shorn of three-quarters of their squad would still be favourites to go up. It all depends though on what level of performance those Roscommon players who are left , can rise to. We have seen Cavan rise to the challenge of putting a new team together minus the talents of arguably 5 of our best players (Mackey,McVitty,K.Clarke,Moynagh,Niall Murrray) and also Conor Rehil . However we cant keep doing this every year and have any hope of success. The teams who are successful have stable panels.

It's hard to know. Think Armagh caught us on the hop a bit. I was at the McKenna cup game and they had near a full team out and we had a lot of newcomers and they won well that day too. Come the first round of the league, they still had a strong team and for a good few of our lads, it was their first game. Armagh just looked fitter and had more game time and they ran away with that game. Looks like that caught up with them a bit already, Cavan starting to motor at the right time now. Players coming back from injury, and others have some game time under their belt now. It is hard when we turn over that many players, but looks like the lads coming in have the talent enough to do a job. Just need to keep momentum now. Some of those players may even join back up to later in the year, remains to be seen. We're in for a tight league anyway
