Was he not appointed at same time as Mickey but very much behind the scenes until June? That's what I was led to believe.

Replying To Matthew:  "Will certainly be very tight here RD! The worse thing that could happen is for your adopted county to get promoted. I think they should stay up comfortably. A loss with Egan & Martin out for a few of the games. But quality players like Connellan, Holloway and Loughlin are all coming back in now also. I expect them to start with a win over Clare on Sunday. Hopefully Meath stay up in D1 also!!"
Hopefully you right on both.

Replying To ispeakwisdom:  "Thats a lot of red thumbs down and compared to some of your previous posts whereby you try to wind up posters yet you haven't said a lot wrong here.

We'll probably be the team that most will want to beat afterall we are provincial champions and are the only team in this division that reached the last 8 of the championship last summer. However we have been hit badly with player opt outs and injuries and we won't know if we are promoted candidates until about round 4 at least.

The media has talked up Kildare and all the bookies has them favourites to win the Division 2 title, loads have a fancy for Armagh also. Even our local journalist Kevin Egan (Offaly man living here) has tipped Kildare and Armagh for the two promotion spots.

With the introduction of the unwanted tier 2 competition for the summer its going to be some scrap to avoid relegation and I'm expecting Division 2 to be the most interesting and competitive of all 4 divisions."
Believe it or not I find division two to always be the most intriguing, I firmly believe that there is a group of about 12 counties all at the same level, the bottom 2/3 in division 1. The top 1/2 in div 3 and every team in div 2. That's what makes it the most interesting division of them all. Always tight games, very rarely a hammering. And a game can go either way. For entertainment value it's the most intriguing.

Looking like Armagh and Kildare for promotion. Cavan and Roscommon the other two possible contenders are only playing with half of last summers championships starting teams and those absent players are already keenly felt.

The real intriguing thing about this division will be the relegation dog fight. Some teams fitness wise are probably at championship pace already to avoid the drop. The problem with that is they will be running on empty come championship time

Come championship time it won't matter because those teams apart from maybe Roscommon won't have a realistic chance at a provincial title. They are fighting to stay in a championship they will never win.

Plenty of teams in this division that could if they are fit and prepared right reach the super 8s this summer. Fermanagh and Cavan reached recent Ulster finals, Westmeath, Laois reached the Leinster finals.

Clare, Kildare and Armagh all reached the last 8 in the last few years. More to the Gaa championship than who wins it and all teams in this division would prefer to have the opportunity to at least reach the last 8 once more than play in a Tommy Murphy cup that carries no value even if its won.

Very god points there gaa_lover. As regards the second tier competition I think that if promoted properly it could become popular just as teams in divisions 2, 3 and 4 dont regard their league finals as inferior to the Division final.

Not that i Know of,and wouldn't make sense to rumble things before the Ulster final i Donegal are a superior team, i don't know what an appointment at that stage was going to change..

Oh I'd agree. We were huge outsiders and if I'm honest, I was actually happy enough with how we kept going in that game.

What followed v Tyrone was abysmal and it just looks like a rot has set in.

Be interesting to see how we turn this around. If we do.

I think I got 3 of the 4 games right last week.

Laois v Armagh...........................Armagh to do what the rossies couldn't do last week and hold onto a big lead. Armagh by 6 points

Clare v Kildare............................bad defeat for Clare last week against a fellow relegation candidate. Will be competitive but lose. Kildare by 3 points

Cavan v Westmeath................. Cavan in serious trouble if they don't win this game and I think they will Cavan

Fermanagh v Roscommon.... Fermanagh Unbeaten at home in the league for 3 years v Roscommon missing up to 8 first choice players. Fermanagh by 1
