Congrats to the Rossies on promotion. It is only good for the Connacht rivalry to have another Division 1 team. Hopefully we can stay in the division tomorrow fingers crossed.

Congratulations to Roscommon and Armagh. After Roscommon lost their second round game to Fermanagh they were priced at 16/1 to win Division 2. Hopefully a few punters won a nice few quid on those odds.

He was talking about yesterday's game.

Stephen Smith was a Cavan substitute. Came on for the last 15mins or so. Missed the goal chance

Delighted to gain promotion straight back to Division 1, in truth we should never have got relegated last year but we had to take a bit of gamesmanship on the chin as we down.

It wasn't looking good for us at the start of this division 2 campaign. We had a mountain of injuries and a few key players had opted out as they had plans to go travelling (oh the pre covid days)

We foolishly drew our opening game, two injury time goals was a real smash and grab draw for Laois a point that turned out to be huge for them in the long run. We somehow managed to lose deep into injury time against Fermanagh when we led by 6 points and in control in that contest. That said more about us on the day as Fermanagh lost their remaining games.

Round 3 against Clare was a real pressure game, and we didn't help ourselves by going down to 14 men after 24 minutes but great game management was used after that red as we went on to win by 7 points.

Next up was a key game, crossroads match, away to Kildare whom were tipped by many to win but we produced a good team performance and deserved 4 point win and after that win we knew we were back on track for promotion.

A big Derby against Westmeath followed and we got a comfortable win thanks to the return Conor Cox from injury.

Then the long wait when if ever were we going to play Armagh and Cavan away? 7 months was the answer and last weeks well deserved win in the Athletic Grounds more or less secured promotion yet then came our covid concern with 1 player testing positive and another 14 players deemed close contacts and having to sit out the game last Saturday. Under those circumstances few expected us to beat Cavan, Apart from the final 10 minutes we controlled that match. We defended better, attacker better, played as a team better, worked harder, better system of play etc than Cavan. We were simply good value for the 2 point win.

Finally congrats to Armagh on gaining promotion with us, hard luck to Cavan, a great footballing country whom we have played more often than any team over the last decade hopefully you can bounce back from this disappointment.

The most competitive division where most teams could have been either promoted or relegated going into the final round. Roscommon undoubtedly the standout team after a poor start but their recent Division 1 experience as well as good championship runs in recent years stood to them. The Armagh comeback was a huge result for them and they finished off that game very impressively.
On a personal note it was good to see Westmeath retain their Division 2 status and challenging for promotion considering where we came from in the last few years. They definitely held their own in the division and should have got more out of the Cavan and Armagh games where they held considerable leads and were in control only to let both teams back into the game.
It will be a tough division next year with Mayo and Meath coming down from Div1 and Cork and Down coming up from Division 3
