First of all Monaghan were crap, but I think they put all their eggs in one basket and it came crashing down, too negative in the first half, they played to keep the score down and the wind died for the second half and the game was up, Donegal were too good to give up that lead, but we're better than that.
Only seen highlights of the Meath game but seems to me they need to get with the program if they are to progress. A certain amount of cynism is required and used at this level, that's the hard facts. IF Galway slowed things down against a strong wind, well that's what the top teams do, stop whinging about it and learn from it. The irony of eulogising cynical Meath players of the past and at the same time criticising current teams is just letting yourselves down. Most teams in Div 2 next year won't have experience in that facet of the modern game.
Will be a Dublin v Galway/ Kerry final probably and Mayo look in trouble even if we finish on same points as them, have head to head advantage and superior points difference

Galway recovered after a terrible start to get the win, would have taken a draw at any stage today such a topsy turvy it was. Meath will look back at the last 5 minutes of the first half as when they lost the game though it was there for them at the end but couldn't close it out. I expect Meath to have a good summer and will be in the mix in the super 8s. Galway have developed a knack of winning close games but some of the old problems are still there and will have to be resolved if we are to make a real push later on this summer.

Meath's first year up in Div 1 after a spell in Div 2 in 2020 and ye get relegated . Who does it suit?
It took Meath years to get upto Div 1 but it took a few weeks to go down to Div 2."
Bit confused, Meath relegated, yes, Galway in the final?

Once again so near but yet so far, a great overall performance from Meath but just like the Mayo game one slip handed Galway a goal they never looked like getting prior to that. People may laugh at the angst shown against the ref but he made some crucially bad errors leading up to half time, all his fault? No, the constant tinkering with rules and adding rules has made the job of a ref a nightmare but the lack of consistency is shocking, Galway played a cute few tricks with the ref in those few minutes and got scores from them and it's those tricks we need to learn, not that I like saying it but it's the truth. Meath's performance level has improved steadily the past few weeks particularly against Kerry and Galway to the extent that we are ruefully looking back at those games as opportunities to put points on the board, as also was the case v Mayo but I am certain sure that this Meath team are going to come out the better of this experience and with a few lads coming back from injury I'm optimistic of a positive end to the league campaign. As for Galway well I think some may have been reading too much into that Tyrone result but they are a side with good decent potential and will no doubt relish the possibility of relegating Mayo when they meet. For Meath it's Dublin in Croker and I'm actually looking forward to this game, we want to see Meath put in a performance and lay a marker down and I fully expect they will play to do just that as it's important that the performance level doesn't drop and that Meath keep improving that performance level, no better team to do it against than the Dubs who might be a bit sore after bouncing off a few walls in the tunnel in Omagh.

The result didn't upset me as much as others. Annoyed but we'll move on.

I think these div 1 games give us a tad more optimism for the championship. Probably won't be enough to beat the very top teams of Dublin or Kerry but I think we have a shock in us if we were to play a next level team like Tyrone, Monaghan, Donegal or Galway."
Probably not enough to beat Dublin is quite an understatement. Meath are as far away from Dublin as they ever have been.
While reaching the Super 8s last year can be seen as progress, the reality is Meath only had to beat Offaly and Clare to qualify for it, scraping past Clare by a point.
They've lost every game they've played against a good team in the last 11 months.
Leinster needs a strong Meath again. They need to start getting over the line in these games to build confidence. There are some talented footballers there, but we only see flashes.

You don't have to be the better team to win games up here. We in monaghan know that more than anyone, but we are used to it. It's cruel and cynical but you have to give it as good as you take it and galway can give it and you can't give it. I feel Meath are using this excuse of learning and injuries as some excuse. Maybe the county should learn at how to avoid injuries and toughen up. A yoyo team in the making, joining the cavan, roscommon and kildare."

Galway made the league final in 2018 in our first year back in Division 1. That's the comparison he's making.

I was worried about this game because this galway team over the years tended to undo the good work of a great win by following it up with a no show performance. Were it not for Conroy coming on it would have happened again today.

Joyce will now be aware it's still a problem and can sort it out"
Ya it was tough. Our kick outs were a real issue. Lots of pulling and dragging during game.......... Sean Kelly must have pulled the jersey off himself......the ultimate in cynicism! Ref didn't help matters with yellow cards for black card offences. The off the ball stuff (pulling and dragging) happened very early and if they were dealt with that would have ended it.

Considering that the wind disappeared after the hail storm we closed it out pretty well. We played the first half against a gale and only had the benefit for 15-20 mins of the second half.

There's definitely more to come from Meath. If they had managed to stay up at all it would have seriously benefited them. Could well be in Super 8s this year. I think they will be much more suited to summer football than they are to this time of year. Some serious pace in their team.

That was peculiar to say the least. It can't be for anything in the tunnel because they are not black card offences (although i suspect it was!). Unless he said something to an official.

No point getting wound up by one of the most biased posters on the board, RD has form for this.

Meath put themselves in a position to beat Galway by going 8 points up and blew it yet again, Galway were poor yesterday yet Meath couldn't take advantage. The constant moaning about players missing is boring, everyone is missing players, the reality is Meath's panel is not strong enough and doesn't have enough quality. Galways first year back was in 2018 and they managed to reach a league final whilst missing the Corofin contingent and a few others.

It doesn't do the Meath players any favours seeing their manager constantly complain about the referee's after every match, its giving the players an excuse, they've put themselves in match winning situations against Mayo & Galway and blown it.

A good win for ourselves against Monaghan. They will not be sorry to see the back of Ballyshannon that's for sure. It was one of those days where anything that could go wrong did go wrong. Monaghan are better than what they showed and will no doubt be in the mix for provincial honors come the summer.

All that said, a lot of credit must go to our lads as well for the 10 point win. I thought we looked well up for battle and unlike recent weeks, once we got ahead there was no hope we would relinquish it this time. On a day when Murphy failed to score it was encouraging to see others like Langan (superb match), O'Donnell and McFadden chipping in. Shaun Patton was faultless which was great to see after his error last weekend. His kickout against the wind to beat the Monaghan press was fantastic and it led to McFadden's goal which put the final nail in Monaghan's coffin. A word too for the often unheralded Caolan Ward. Took his goal with aplomb and drove at Monaghan as the spare man.

If we can beat Tyrone at home we're safe and we'll have laid down a marker on two of our biggest provincial rivals. That would also leave a free swing heading down to Kerry for the last game. Not a bad campaign at all if we can achieve that. Lads like Gallen, McGrath and McMenamin to come back as well.

Was just thinking this myself, it seems just about every game they lose there's McEntee blaming the ref. Giving the players an excuse yes but I think the main thing is looking an excuse for himself. Was the ref hard on Meath yesterday? Possibly so, I obviously didn't see the game but its starting to get a bit of the boy who cried wolf feel to it. Just the usual noise coming from the Meath set up.
Meath will probably learn plenty from this and will benefit in the long run but at the moment appear a mile off the top teams. Will they bounce back in Division 2 next year - possibly but no guarantee that they will or that the results would be any different if they do make it back to the top division again as the likes of Cavan & Roscommon have seen.
As for some Meath posters constantly trying to take the morale high ground (against Ulster teams in particular) then wishing for men who would leave players "searching for their teeth", quite pathetic and sad really that they would see these acts as something to be proud off. But one thing about the successful Meath teams from the past they didn't look for excuses - something this set up would be better off trying to emulate.

Andy Mac expressing his frustration about the ref ignoring cynical Galway fouls. And people say Tyrone are cynical!!

Don't get me wrong, I always liked Galway football and hurling - just a bit surprised yesterday.

I really hope we get them later in the year as I think that, with a proper ref that would protect the players, we can take them.
