Replying To Crinigan: "Where did I say I hated Ashbourne, Kilbride, Dunboyne etc? And why would anyone hate Dublin people? Or are you are insinuating that you hate Dublin people?
To quote your goodself..."Nobody in the county hates the Dubs more than those in Ratoath, Ashbourne and Dunboyne that have lived through a failed attempted invasion"....that's pretty strong lad. Isn't Trump the one that's supposed to hate immigrants? Are you the Irish Trump maybe?
I did say however that since he doesn't seem to remember Paddy O Rourke playing a good game outfield for Meath and he thinks Mickey Newman is finished at 27, that maybe since he clearly hasn't a clue what he's talking about, he could be a recent addition to Rataoth and is therefore new to Meath football, which going by recent census figures is in fact a statistical probability.
Now Take a deep breathe and relax yourself. And go easy on the Dubs, they are your fellow Irishmen." Like the Dubs yourself do you? Mannerly and respectful towards you at all times are they? Never shove their cockiness in your face and claim "ah sure there was nothing out here till we moved out". Come out to Ratoath some night and bask in their presence so over a can or two of Dutch Gold sndva batter burger and you'll soon appreciate how much "Meath" the native Ratoath people are and how whilst outnumbered we still let everyone know that Ratoath is County Meath and not an extension of Dublin 15 as certain people from more northern reaches of the county like to proclaim from the sidelines.

Replying To Foley91: "Against popular opinion I'm with nobull on this. Meath were very poor at times and pass and shot selection was well below whats required. I'm not sure what o'sullivans role is. He's all over the place and on a wet day carried the ball for too long. We were wide open in the first half and our full back ok were exposed one on one. Kildare lauded the midfield in the first half. It's a reflection of how far we've fallen that we are dancing out of navan in March after a win over a poor kildare team on the way down." Ah give over will you, yes the performance was below par at times and yes our shooting was way off at times but the guts, heart and determination shown in that second half was immense, 12 months ago we wouldn't have won a game like that and you would be spouting the exact same stuff, we have won 4 out of 5 and are on the brink of Division 1 after a display and ending that had Navan on its feet and in all honesty if we had our shooting boots on we would have won that game between 4-6 points, we dominated the second half almost entirely. There is improvement in this team and I'm glad to see Meath supporters realise that and showed their support in numbers today despite the awful weather.

Is it because your own county was involved?" Ah go away out of that with your mass brawl, go find a Palestinian flag to cry into or some other flag of a nation you know little about but think you have a kindred spirit with.

One man who came into conversation a lot in the company I was in last night was the now notorious P'OR. The amount of people I heard saying he would have caught this, he would have caught that and Quinlivan wouldn't have got that goal if he was there, the same people who were looking for his head on a block last year were now baying for his return!!!! With thinking like that I just shook my head and realised y'know what we are where we are for a reason and it's all self inflicted. Lack of work on underage, disposing of some managers unfairly, employing some bad choices of managers, having this feeling that we should be up around the top table all the time, not embracing change in our club structures.........if supporters are looking for people to blame then, as I've said before, look to our clubs, look to our decision makers, look to those we send as county board reps, it's only in recent years that we have an administration approaching professionalism in both its approach and performance (after a serious lull period) what with infrastructural developments, financial prudence and improved position, and development of our underage structures. We have a long way to catch up lads but we will get there I'm sure, and something else I think is this, when you have a senior team that's trying (and they are trying of that there's no doubt) and when you try and build a bit of momentum I can't imagine it does very good when you hear one of your recently departed colleagues insinuate that your more or less wasting your time, that your going nowhere, that your life is being made a misery by putting your shoulder to the county wheel !!!!! The timing of that "interview" was cat and showed little respect to those who are sacrificing much for Meath football and I have no doubt that what was said has gotten into the heads of some of the players, they deserve better and the more I thought about it the more I think that the notorious PO'R could have timed his little outburst a bit better in my opinion

Replying To Jack_Goff: "Funny to think if we win this, many Dublin fans will have seen us play 3 times! I'm expecting a tough battle but unless we are 5+ down with 15 to go I think our fitness will see us through. The league final experience in Croker will stand to this team. I suppose you could say the same for Laois. They are Div 3 champs yeah?
If we win will many of you attend the leinster final? The result is a foregone conclusion and it's not going to be cheap." If Meath are in a Leinster Final I'll be there and so should we all, whether it's a forgone conclusion or not, that way of thinking has to change someday, the Dubs have two arms, two legs and a head the same as our lads but if your mental state is such that your going out to get an ass whipping then that's invariably what happens, positive thoughts gentlemen, positive thoughts

Ok hang on a minute, Pearse Park had a set capacity of 6000 with around 2000 seats!!!! To hell with this now, my understanding was that the game was to be played at Pearse Park, which I have no problem with, providing that works had been completed to a satisfactory level, now we hear the southern terrace is completely demolished and unavailable and only 2000 seats in the stand available, 2000 seats between both sets of supporters!!!! This is farce, they won't let Wicklow host the Dubs, they won't let Carlow host Kildare but they allow us to visit what is essentially a building site with a lower capacity of either Aughrim or Dr Cullen Park........maybe I'm overreacting here but to hell with it I think this is scandalous.

These are the matches you want to see are the players able to deal with these difficult situations ...and they did it
Now to sit back and wait for a disgruntled fan on here to call it only the Obyrne cup or Westmeath are crap" Well said, I missed the match due to work but great to hear such encouraging comments. I lost interest in when this game would be played during the league but it turns out playing it two weeks before championship was an ideal preparation match, hopefully this positivity continues into the next few weeks

Replying To Young_gael: "I too think that €20 is a bit much for League matches. Particularly to see what is on show a lot of the time. Its affordable for me, but isnt for a lot of people. Imagine a family of 4 with two adults and two teenagers going to watch a game in Pairc Tailteann and having to potentially pay €60+ to get in the gate. No doubt the adult rate of €20 also coincides with an increase in senior and student and child rates. Its too much and a lot of people arent motivated enough these days to stretch the extra few pound. And I thought the atmosphere in Navan over the last few years was dull enough." U-16 bring free is a great concession but I have to say I think €20 for match day itself is a bit steep, it would be something if you had a nice stand, good toilets and other associated facilities to enjoy but €20 to numb the arse off yourself in Navan is a bit Irish, €15 was adequate and at a time when we need to encourage crowds to games I don't think this increase was well timed, certainly now the season ticket is the way to go, I'm regretting not getting one this year now

Over in New York and by God I had an extra pep in my step walking about the place today, had a feeling this would be a tough game as Clare had some much to play for so to come away with a 5 point win was fantastic, plenty to work on still but the work rate and intensity is improving all the time. Very important to keep momentum going now and beat Fermanagh to seal promotion in style, if we though Navan was loud v Kildare by Christ wait till next Sunday :-)

Replying To Meath_True: "Positivity just before the Championship , is always a good thing . But please lets not be loosing the run of ourselves here , Down were atrocious even by Div. 2 standards .
Look who have progressed out of Div 2 this year . We are clapping ourselves on the back when we beat a team that are as bad as a lot of the Div. 2 football has been this year . Totally inconsistent , look at Tipperary ,Meath , we are inconsistent and have been for a number of years . I hope we do get to remain in Div 2 , just for the sake of attempting to get to Div 1 next year otherwise we could very easily become the New Derry .
It's not about good or bad footballers its about how you use them . Derry have good footballers , take a look at Slaughneill , however the Derry County set out is atrocious . And the county is suffering that system .......
Against Down there were a number pf passages of play that were direct and penetrating , and they got results . But there were also the periods of play where we were afraid to try to penetrate for fear of loosing the ball . They were atrocious .
I counted numerous occasions where we took too much out of the ball ( hand passing laterally , and backwards ) and made absolutely no forward progress . Been on the back foot is not our style of football , 15 behind the ball is not our style of football . It gives us a false sense of security , and in reality our defence even with 15 behind the ball is not all that , recall the second half goal scored by Down , not one Meath player put in a telling tackle in before the ball was despatched to the net .By the way where is Harry Rooney , and or Daniel O Neill .
Why was Mickey Burke introduced and not some one else that could fight for a starting position ?
Eamon Wallace for all the speed that he did or has , slowed the ball down every time he got it . If it's not for his speed then what does he bring to the party , as his shooting was also out of a Div 3 -4 drawer .
Again Tobin despatched his opportunity well when he got it , but there were numerous occasions that he made rus but was not spotted ...... Our problems with decision making still appear ." Who's losing the fun of themselves?? Look we won a very important match we were under huge pressure to win and we kicked 4-14 and still you want to pick the negatives, if we lost we would be in Division 3 today and the place would be in uproar but we won and won well so just for today can we hail the effort and not crap all over the team for work rate and performance yesterday, it seems they are in an unwinnable position with some people here.

Replying To matthematx: "Rooney is not coming back next year and where are the signs we are going no where ontill we have some good players as it stands not one meath player wouldmake the dublin team or bench thats nobodys fault its just a fact when we have top class players at least 5 we wont be winning anything look at cavan and roscomonn division 1 does not work miricials we would be hammered by dublin monaghan kerry .cavan went up last year snd wer beaten by tipp went we get players like giles fay murphy big mac and gg then we will compete the standard in meath is just not there we will just have to keep plugging away and show up for matches ontill good players are available" Jesus here we go again making stupid statements about our players not being good enough for other teams, lads will ye give up on that load of b*****ks, we are trying to develop players for a Meath team not any other county. And we need promotion, we need to play teams like Donegal, Mayo, Dublin etc on a more regular basis or we will never we fully develop our players to their full potential, sure why don't we all sit at home and twiddle or thumbs for god knows how long until we discover these special players, I might remind you that players of the calibre of Lyons, O'Rourke, Cassels, McEntee etc suffered the indignity of defeats to the likes of Longford and Wexford before success came their way, they were lambasted in the same way some of the current players were and in 1985 when Laois cut them to pieces in Tullamore anyone who said we would win Leinster a year later would have been locked up, those players were thought to be not good enough just as many think today's players aren't good enough. Well I am not part of that school of thought and whilst I am not a blind optimist either I believe these players and management can have success, and I won't be sitting at home waiting for it to happen either.

Results today might actually be good for us, It keeps the division tight below Cavan who seem destined for promotion. You have three teams on 4 points two of whom we have to play at home so I'm going to shake off last nights depression and become an optimist again, we can survive provided players and management knuckle down and eradicate the silly handling and passing errors and stick to a game plan that Meath players are comfortable with and capable of playing to because whatever that game plan was last night I couldn't make sense of it

Replying To Crinigan: "Yeah I noticed the Wearemeath podcast going in for its tea in recent week. But it's basically a podcast to put forward the view of county board officials or the official view ...it certainly wasn't independent or objective from what I could tell.
Are there any quotes attributed to management yet after yesterday?
The whole thing with the new management is baffling. You have two educated men from a great Meath family, both of whom have done great things with Dublin club teams, remarkable in case of Andy while Gerry is known to give inspirational talks to KK hurlers etc...it's really the dream team.
And yet I literally cannot believe how naive and just plain stupid our tactics have been, from gk kick outs to defensive strategy to having no forward line. I'm sorry but MOD's team was at least exciting to look at, this is just awful. And this on top of players dropping like flies off the panel due to being peed off. McKeever left off til 5 mins from the end, why? He wasn't injured. Why wouldn't we play with Tobin, McKeever and Lenihan, two in ff and one just behind? Are we afraid of Cork in Navan now? Why would anyone even bother training to turn up at pairc tailteann and represent Meath playing that style of football. It's nothing short of a disgrace.
This isn't me unreasonably slating management or being a negative supporter delighting in our demise. I was as excited as anyone about this management team but it's been one baffling decision after another and I honestly can't see them seeing them being in charge next year.
What would I suggest?
1. Scrap pairc tailreann plans and launch massive fund raising campaign across the clubs to get as many full time coaches in as possible into primary and secondary schools and club teams.
2. Forget about having a county team at senior level for a 5 year period
3. Sort out the club scene and dedicate next 5 years to getting a highly competitive club scene with a second championship competition that includes junior and intermediate teams amalgamated and competing against senior clubs like in Kerry. Club players will be delighted with this. No point in holding up the club scene anymore for the shite we are seeing at county level.
4. Forget about these development squads at county level, they are a waste of time. It should be all about constant competition and intelligent coaching and most of all enjoyment and love of the game for youngsters all over the county.
Maybe then, once this plan is firmly in action, should we return to the intercounty scene, starting from Div 4! If people insist on having a county team as they can't stomach not having one, fair enough but it should no longer hold up the club scene or have as much financial resources pumped in." Scrap Pairc Tailteann, forget about a county team for 5 years? Sort out club scene? Sorry lad but it is talk like this that in my opinion has led us to being where we are today, negative unconstructive talk that serves no purpose. Why should the clubs fund extra coaches, the onus is on Leinster Council etc to correct their wrongs and fund the counties properly, not just Dublin, that's starting to happen but the monster has been created. As for the club scene well any change to championship structures was voted against, get on to your club delegates about that one, I agreed with change but it couldn't be agreed, but like a lot of things around here.
