Davy Fitzgerald intimated after Wexford's championship exit at the hands of his native Clare that he would be remaining in charge of the Model County in 2021.

After leading Wexford to a first Leinster SHC title in 15 years and coming within a whisker of beating Tipperary in the All-Ireland semi-final last year, Fitzgerald suffered the disappointment of back-to-back championship defeats to Galway and Clare this year.

"I have year five with Wexford if I want it. The only way there will be a year five is if it is to the betterment of that team," he told RTE.

"Now, they made it pretty clear inside what they want, but we'll see. Whatever is in the betterment of them. I'll take my time and decide. The people of Wexford have been incredible to me and my family and that is the way it should be - there should never be abuse in this game.

"It has been pretty unique and special the three-four years we have had, this year not so much. But there is still more in these guys. We were near it the last two days but, you know what? There will be good days ahead for this bunch yet."
