With the expectation that the Government will move the country to Level 3 of Covid-19 restrictions from next week, there is likely to be some tweaking of the GAA’s match day restrictions.

Currently only 26-players are allowed to enter grounds for championship matches along with 12 backroom team members.

This has led to a huge amount of criticism from county managers who have had to leave up to a dozen members of their squads at home on match days.

Limerick’s John Kiely and Mayo’s James Horan have been scathing of the regulations with Horan saying: “"Not allowing the panel to go to games, it is outrageous.”

Prior to the return of intercounty games, the country was told it would be moving into level 5 restrictions.

The GAA had already indicated that only 26 playing members would be allowed to attend games but any room to adjust that was removed once Level 5 was announced.

With the country expected to move to Level 3 next week, prior to the All-Ireland SFC semi-finals, it is now likely that the the full squads will be allowed to attend the games, with only 26 players allowed to tog out.

Under Level 3 supporters are not allowed at games so there is little hope of fans being present for the All-Ireland finals, which take place in the run up to Christmas.
