Tomás Ó Sé was in hot water after he asked earlier in the week if it suited weaker counties to give walkovers because of Covid-19 outbreaks and has admitted that he should have worded his opinions differently.

Ó Sé commented after Sligo were forced to withdraw from the Connacht SFC because of a Covid-19 outbreak, with Leitrim, Longford and Offaly hurlers also forfeiting games in recent weeks also.

Leitrim Chairperson Enda Stenson was hugely critical of Ó Sé’s comments branding them a disgrace.

Speaking on the RTE GAA Podcast, the former Kerry player admitted that he was abrupt in how he expressed his opinion and accepted that he might have come across as if he wasn't sensitive to the seriousness of the health issues at play.

"Looking back on it, the wording was possibly abrupt and it might have come across as if I wasn’t sensitive to the pain and hurt that is going around the country and the fact that this is bigger than sport,” explained Ó Sé. 

"I didn’t mean it to sound like that, and maybe if I had more time, I would have thought about it. 

"As a player I always showed respect to them (weaker counties). Always. I have never as a pundit looked down on them or treat them differently, but I think it’s fair to question."
