The GAA have expressed their thanks for the support of the Department of Sport and Sport Ireland following news that a funding package worth €85million would be allocated to the sporting sector.
Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport & Media, Catherine Martin TD and Minister of State for Sport and Gaeltacht Affairs, Jack Chambers TD made the announcement of the Covid-19 Relief Fund yesterday.
The GAA are set to receive the largest allocation under the scheme, at €31million, which is in addition to the €15million the Association (GAA, LGFA, Camogie) already received from the State to ensure the All-Ireland championships go ahead as planned this year.
“We would like to place on record our thanks to Ministers Catherine Martin and Jack Chambers, and by extension the government as a whole, in making available these very welcome supports for sport in Ireland and Gaelic games in particular," GAA President John Horan and Director General Tom Ryan said in a statement.
“These funds will make a significant difference in helping our organisation at all levels in the weeks and months ahead after what has been an incredibly challenging year to date.”
