Graham Geraghty celebrates a score for Meath in 1996.

Graham Geraghty's wife Amanda has given a positive update on the Meath legend's recovery, revealing the first question he asked since he started talking from his hospital bed was "are Meath playing today?"

The 47-year-old suffered a brain haemorrhage last Tuesday and was rushed to Our Lady's Hospital in Navan. He was subsequently transferred to Beaumont Hospital where he underwent surgery and now remains in critical care.

The family of the 1999 All-Ireland winning captain were very pleased with how the operation went on Thursday with Amanda saying afterwards that "the next five days are critical and he has a long road of recovery in front of him but we know the Gods on the Hill of Tara will pull one of their best warriors through."

In a further update on Facebook today, she said her All-Star husband is "overwhelmed" by the outpouring of messages of support but "still very sick".

Amanda wrote: "Just to let everyone know that Graham is talking and although he is still in a lot of pain and still very sick, he is overwhelmed with the support and good wishes.

"Yesterday (Sunday), the first thing he asked was "are Meath playing today?""

"Please God, in a few short months, he will be standing on the sidelines at a game."
