Drumcliffe Rossa club notes

November 09, 2020

Hard luck to Michelle McNamara, Sinead Regan, Rachel Quigley and the Sligo gaelic footballers who were beaten by Kildare in Kinnegadon Sunday in the TG4 All-Ireland intermediate football championship. One of our former club stalwarts, Siobhan O’Sullivan, was among the Kildare goalscorers in that game. Sligo have one remaining game against Clare this coming weekend – but after two defeats in the group stages, qualification for the knockout stages is already beyond Sligo’s reach.

A mention too for former Benbulben Gaels hurler Patrick O’Connor who was a member of the Sligo county panel which ran Roscommon to three points in Sunday’s Christy Ring Cup game in Athleague. It was Sligo’s first ever Christy Ring Cup match – and ten Sligo clubs were represented on the panel. While the game ended in a narrow defeat (0-20 to 0-17), it’s another significant milestone in the sport’s ongoing development in the county.

Sligo GAA has informed clubs that the outstanding underage competitions, which are still unfinished, will be completed in the New Year. March looks the most likely time for these remaining club games to be completed, provided it is safe at that time. Sligo GAA will update clubs in due course.

A reminder that Sligo GAA’s ‘Mo Chara’ initiative is up and running during the month of November. Club members are invited to sign up online The aim is to reconnect people with a few friends they may not have talked to in a while. You’ll find the online sign-up form on sligogaa.ie and on the DRP website and Facebook pages.
