Whoever said Conlon was stamping his feet must have an overactive imagination, It is a ridiculous thing to comment on.

Even if he did , It would be the normal traditional attitude of Meath players. If Mick Lyons or Gerry Mc Entee was made stand on the line knowing they could perform better than those starting there would be more than the ground kicked.

Conlon is no Mick Lyons or Gerry McEntee though is he. I seen him numerous times last year in Club Championship and he just wasn't playing to anywhere near the level he had played at the previous year or the year before that so he wouldn't even be a given for a place on the panel on last year's performances never mind a starting spot. Imo he hasn't produced the same level of performance he did in the Donegal qualifier 2 years ago since that game or anywhere near that level of performance . That day I came away from Navan thinking this lad is gonna be one of our main men for years to come.

Who are some of " our best players" that are opting out??? Seems the longer these lads are off the panel the better they have become"
So true.

And every time he played barring one game he was poor, actually very disappointing. So what do we do , put him on regardless of him not performing??

So did I. Couldn't wait for him to develop, now as a young lad maybe he had someone in his ear, giving him bad advice.

Yes you give him a proper run of games in one position and a chance to establish himself. He was half back one day then midfield the next. He's was 20 years old he has to be allowed make mistakes.

If i make a parallel, Lavin got games in 2017 had some bad moments and taken out of action. But he started most games last season at CB and persisted with. As the season went on he got more comfortable and his performances improved. He's slightly older than Conlon too so would have a bit more maturity.

At 20 Lyons and McEntee weren't the figuires they ended up being either but they were given chances took their lumps over the years and built up their experience and that's what you have to do with a Conlon too

Replying To jackhackett:  "Andrew Beakey is with the U-20 panel and was always going to be with them this year. He was brought in with the seniors early in the year to give him experience with the panel and the training.

Lenihan had no falling out with the manager, he is fine travelling for the year with his partner, a choice many of his age make. He may well return to the panel when the 9-12 months away is over.

I don't know the ins and outs of the Simonstown trio so won't comment there.

With A Leagues on Sunday mornings and the majority of Meath games on Sunday afternoons it's very hard for subs to be released. I do notice a fair few lads came home from Donegal to play with their clubs yesterday.

Colm Coyle is not involved as U-15 manager, the manager is Cathal O'Bric.

I've not heard of an U-14 appointment being made.

Please do your research in future."
Which players travelled home from Donegal to play with their clubs apart from Colgan. Did they stay over the night before or the night of the game?

There are many factors to be taken into account when deciding on team selection. Selectors see lads in training, monitor players responses to various things. They see first hand things we dont see,and are far better placed to judge how a player can fit in to the overall scheme of things. They have to draw the line somewhere. Its a judgement call at a point in time. No doubt they dont be right all the time. I will always go with the selected panel for those reasons. I dont give a fiddlers who a player is, or what club he comes from, as long as he gives it his best shot. Any player who may feel short changed always has the chance on a continous basis to play himself back to selection through his club. I do accept that Andy seems to have given everyone a chance to his credit.

Brian I'm not having a go at you. But no manager worth his salt is going to keep a lad on the field of play getting slaughtered. Andy would have rightly been dragged over the coals, we were staring down relegation, you play those who are putting in a shift, I agree about been 20, that's why I think it's better for everyone that he not on panel mostly himself, better off to mature. Now that been said some players like campion and Devine can handle it at 20 years old, some players mature to senior at different stages.

From talking to people in a few clubs and reading some match reports I know Andy's Colgan, Gavin McCoy, Graham Reilly, James Conlon and Danny Quinn all traveller home and played at least some part of their clubs matches on Sunday.

The team stayed in Donegal on Saturday night after travelling up on Saturday morning but whether the players who played on Sunday came home on Saturday or on Sunday morning I don't know.

Think it was Sunday morning, didn't see any matches but didn't graham only play for a few minutes? Or have I been misinformed?
