In my opinion the way football is played now a days he usually performs a very effective role for Meath and in the championship this year he was very consistent, few Meath players can say this this year. Hard running players who cover a lot of ground are very valuable. This year in the championship really suited him as in all games he was always left away from goal and suited his running game. I don't like the way football has changed over the last 15 years in many ways but regardless of this the reality is the way the modern game is played he has been a very effective Meath player. There is a reason he has lasted so long on the panel.

The reality is that on a county level the competition for the award was pretty poor. When you include club performances that is where Mickey stood out and was a real leader for Longwood. oldsam_newsam (Meath) - Posts: 638 - 11/12/2018 13:40:54 2153986 Link 1 |
Well in that case Seamus Lavin should have got it. He had a good year at inter county IMO. and he kept dardis quiet in the senior final mckeever quiet twice mattimoe quiet and Joe Sheridan quiet. People going on about Longwood would have not won the championship without Burke well I would say we wouldn't have won the Championship without lavin and imo not just because he's dunbonye but to get the better of all of those forwards in the 1 season is a phenomenal achievement.

The reason Longwood won the championship is because Burkie was playing and playing very well. If Burkie was not playing they would not have won the championship. Lavin and any other Dunboyne player were good and Dunboyne won because of the team unit and strong bench. That's the reason they won the SFC , if you took Lavin out they would have still won, if you took Lenihan out they would have still won, if you took Lowndes out they would have still won. If you took Burkie out of the Longwood team we would not have won.

Fair enough we'll agree to disagree . I'm not sure we would have won the Championship without Seamus Lavin. He was given the task of picking up every teams dangerman and did so brilliantly and came out on top every time this year. We've have some really top defenders in Dunboyne but I'm not sure if any of the others would have been able to handle the dangermen of mattimoe mckeever twice joe Sheridan and dardis as well as he did and keep them to very few scores from play. In fact I'm certain they wouldn't be able to. Not consistently every game anyway. If your going down that route from what I saw of Longwood which was the 3 knockout games if Ryan Moore was taken out of their team they wouldn't have won the Championship more so than burke. In my opinion of course.
