Wolfe Tones Hurling

Replying To Footnote:  "I realize that with Meath out and the club c/ship not back yet you are always going to get off the wall threads on here but this is different. loads of people could start a thread about different clubs in both football and hurling that are in their opinion struggling but for the most part, they don't!! yes comments are made in threads but to start up one like this is totally out of order, I don't know who the people over the Tones are but i'm sure they give 100% to it and as has already been stated, in north Meath dual clubs , especially rural ones find it hard to keep both going at a high level because it is only natural for one to be stronger at different times. It is a credit to the Wolfe Tones club ( and all dual clubs) that they have kept going. The county board should be doing everything in its power to make sure clubs like this survive by giving the backing in relation to coaching resources etc. With the impact of other sports and a growth of the urban areas in the county we are almost certainly heading to point in the coming years where rural clubs will face the choice of amalgamation or extinction ( A topic for another day). in the meantime as stated already , as a county we should support these clubs in whatever way we can. Back to this thread, of course everybody is entitled to their opinions but the personal nature of it, you would really have to wonder what is behind it!!!"
Well said "Footnote" and yes "toney" it looks that way ;)

It has been said to me that this post may in some way be pointed at me. It has not been me who has been writing anything about the Tones hurling. I have in all my time supported the club and in particular hurling. In Meath it is a near impossibility to run a dual club and to do so has a multitude of problems and at times with limited support. I welcome and applaud anyone who spends any amount of time working on any level with hurling in Meath. I want to see the tones do well and win an intermediate championship. One that I believe they can as they have exceptional individuals, characters and hurlers. It is early days yet and the championship has only started. They will be at the final stages and that's where it starts. Finally I would not ever come on here to slate anything about the club. I have worked with most of kot all of these players and have more respect for them and myself. Anyone who knows me I say what I have to say but not behind a keyboard. Finally the best of luck to the tones in both codes for the remainder of the year. The Gaeltacht success hopefully inspires the club forward. Bhulf Ton abu!

Well said Minor Star, The Tones are going through a rough time at the moment with injuries and lads opting to play football instead of both. I for one don't see why lads would prefer to run laps of the field instead of playing their national game. I guess that's for them to answer. The worrying thing for me is the lack of underage teams in the club. Not very many lads to come through in the next couple of years. They are not the only club in this situation look at Moylough, Kilskyre, Kells, Navan O'Mayonys. All the same. Then there's Rathmolyion a traditional hurling club without a win in the Intermediate Championship this year. The Tones will bounce back from where they are now that is guaranteed , There's to many good Men and Women in the club to let it die.

All Quiet here on the Western Front. With all the doom and gloom being wrote I see the Tones had a really big week. Firstly they fielded a Junior team. Then beat Kildalkey as well. On top of that They Hammered Rathmolyion in the Intermediate on an amazing scoreline of 6-17 to 1-17. That's 41 scores in the match and probably another 10 or so wides. When did we see a score line like that in a game before in Meath. Rathmolyion are now zero from three games in the Championship and out of the running.

Shivermetimber must be gone on retreat to craggy island.

Not at all. Was watching the games over the weekend and wasn't bothered to post as my predictions were correct. Wolfe tones would beat rathmolyon. Fact. I did say though it woukd be the beating by Kells that would see you out. I stick by that! One swallow doesn't make a summer and a good weekend doesn't give a prediction for the remainder of the championship. Let's call it now, neither team to qualify.

Good man Shivermetimber, good to see you back! There's quite a lot of similarities, ie your text/speech on this to that of Minorstar.... Have you a split personality and decide who you will reply on this as from day to day??? You were correct about the Rathmolyon result, well done! Blue Peter badge for you! Again the Tones missing some main players and showed why they were UNLUCKY in both their first two games. However, your views on the second team seem to be flawed.... A turnout of 19 players against Kildalkey and a hard earned win with plenty of skill on display from some lads that have 1st team experience and chose to give the 2nd team a dig out as they have a preference to gaelic. It's a pity you can't just admit that your slandering of Wolfe Tones hurling by setting up this forum was uncalled for.

Good Man on your prediction. Are you saying they won't beat Kells or hoping they won't. The latter sounds more like it to me. It is great to see 3 north Meath teams fighting it out for palaces in the Intermediate Hurling Championship. Kells have a very busy week ahead of them. O'Mahony's is the Senior football on Sunday. Tones in the Intermediate Hurling on Wed and The Div 1. Football league final on the following Saturday. Not very fair on them.
They lost to a very understrength Na fianna team last day out so they are no world beaters either. As for the Junior the Tones are nearly qualified. If they beat Na Fianna next day out then they Qualify So your predictions are not so hot really. Anyway it would be great to see a North Meath team win this year whoever it is. Hurling needs them all. You need to get that chip off your shoulder it's not good for your health.

Bowza I am sticking to the fact nothing more, bring all the misfortune into play, not listening, As for latouche, dual clubs have fixture pile ups but unfortunately Wolfe tones are not involved in the div 1 league final after the ihc. It is Kells and skyrne. Must be all the excitement with the wins muddying the brain. As for a risk to my health - wow

Does Donal Keoghan play at all anymore. Seen him play in an intermediate final few years back thought he looked a decent hurler.

Donal has been carrying a hamstring injury since the Tyrone game. Probably wasn't willing to risk the injury in the last few Tones games to keep himself right for Rathkenny this weekend which is understandable. Hell of a hurler but again it's just a preference to gaelic.

Well it appears everyone was wrong about the Tones V Kells game. It finished in a draw after all. Both teams had their chances to win it. Tones had some awful wide's in the first half 12 I believe but Kells had a couple of frees to win near the end and missed. A draw was probably the fairest result. Neither team will win the Championship from what I saw.
