Louth: Louth GAA will not be offering O’Connells clubman Wayne Kierans a third year in as manager of the Louth GAA Senior Football team. Wayne has been in charge of the senior team since 2018 and although the results have not been what everyone would have wanted he has done a good job. We wish Wayne all the best with whatever he decides to do in the future and remind him that the gates of the Grove are always open to one of own.

Season: The GAA’s Fixtures Task Force has put forward a recommendation that the GAA calendar be split with no crossover between intercounty and club championship games. County games would be played at the start of the calendar year until the All-Ireland finals in July. From July onwards club championship games would take place without the interruption of intercounty games. The GAA have said that a consultation process will take place before plans are debated at the 2021 Congress next April with the intention that the new season plan would be in operation from 2022. A split season took place this year due to the challenges posed by Covid-19 and the success of that model led to GAA President John Horan asking the Fixtures Task Force to consider a split season. There are currently two proposals for how the intercounty championships should be run from 2022 onwards - a provincial system or a league based system.

Honour: Tipperary GAA have confirmed that they will wear a replica green and white jersey in the Munster SFC final against Cork on Sunday week, coinciding with the 100 year anniversary of Bloody Sunday. The Premier County, who are aiming to win the provincial senior football silverware for the first time since 1935, are to swap the blue and gold for their original county colours green and white "as worn by Tipperary on that eventful day as a mark of respect to all of the fallen." The special commemorative jersey, endorsed by the GAA, will feature 'Tipperary' in iconic gold writing on the front instead of the logo of sponsor Teneo along with an image of Michael Hogan on the sleeve. Bloody Sunday on November 21, 1920, is known as the darkest day in GAA history, when Tipperary footballer Michael Hogan and 13 others were shot and killed by British Forces in a challenge match versus Dublin at Croke Park.
