Kerry's David Clifford congratulates Sean Meehan of Cork

Former Armagh star Oisin McConville sees Kerry’s shock exit from the All-Ireland senior football championship as “a serious opportunity” for other contenders in the race.

The Kingdom crashed out of the Sam Maguire Cup race after Mark Keane’s goal in the dying seconds of extra time handed Cork a famous 1-12 to 0-13 win at Pairc Ui Chaoimh.

While he sees Dublin as firm favourites to complete a six-in-a-row triumph, McConville reckons Kerry’s exit will leave a couple of outsiders with a real chance of reaching the final.

"Obviously there's still a blue cloud hanging over the championship with everybody looking to Dublin," the 2002 All-Ireland winner told RTÉ's Morning Ireland.

"On the other side of the draw we're going to have a finalist from Mayo, Galway, Tipperary or Cork.

"For all those teams they must sit up this morning and think, 'what an opportunity we have to get to a final' in what has obviously been a strange year.

"There is a serious opportunity now for those counties to get to that final."
