All-Ireland semi-final places were up for grabs today in both the senior hurling and football championships.
With the safety net of the back door gone, it was All-Ireland SHC quarter-finals day. Reigning champions Tipperary faced Galway in a mouth-watering contest at the Gaelic Grounds (1:15) followed by the all-Munster meeting of Waterford and Clare at Pairc Ui Chaoimh (3:45).
Meanwhile, Croke Park was the setting for tonight's Leinster SFC final between ten-in-a-row-chasing Dublin and neighbours Meath, who last ruled the province in 2010. This one threw in at 7pm.
Round Four of the Joe McDonagh Cup pitted Meath against Westmeath at Navan (1pm), while Kerry entertained Carlow in a game that neither team could afford to lose (1:30).
