Galway boss Padraic Joyce has named four debutants for their championship opener against Mayo on Sunday, with Shane Walsh captaining the side from full forward in the Connacht SFC final at Pearse Stadium (throw-in 1.30pm).
The newcomers to championship action are full back Sean O Maolchiarain, midfielder Cein Darcy, wing forward Paul Kelly and corner forward Dessie Conneely. Kelly and Conneely were part of the Moycullen team that claimed a first ever Galway SFC title last month, with the latter scoring 1-9 in the final win over Mountbellew/Moylough.
Galway will be coming into the game cold after receiving a bye from semi-final opponents Sligo who were forced to concede the fixture due to an outbreak of Covid-19 in their squad.
