Having watched Armagh and Donegall on Saturday I have to say they are some team and some of the football they play is a joy to watch they just blew Armagh away wave after wave of attacking football and that is very hard to stop dare I say that they are better than last year they mirror the way Dublin play these last few years it has to be a benchmark for the way we would want our players to play in Cavan going forward. Some of their posts mention our own Gearoid McKiernan and that they will need to watch him and how he is a big man who can score with either foot that's very true. But Donegall have several big athletic powerful men who can take a score I wonder what they feed them on and can we have some. Seriously though they are a very well drilled unit who won't be intimidated by Dublin and no I don't mean I'm throwing in the towel I want Cavan to win more than anything but being realistic we have a mountain to climb. As I'm in exile and a lot of my friends are Donegall people I wouldn't be surprised to see Sam heading to the hills again. Mickey Graham and his team have given us tremendous entertainment over the last five weeks and all credit to the players seven other Ulster teams would love to be in our position next Sunday so let's dare to dream. Up Cavan.

Yes they've given a lift in the covid times. Luke Fortune has impressed playing with regularly. FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2216 - 17/11/2020 16:29:09 2310710 Link 0 |
Do we know who the referee is for Sunday - whoever it is needs to be wise to Michael Murphy's constant attempts to ref the game himself. Not forgetting how he got away with creeling Galligan in last year's final. TheFean (Cavan) - Posts: 22 - 17/11/2020 20:52:18 2310834 Link 0 |

Awful carry on. The only solace to take from it is that at least Big Dermo is in there to protect these young Gowna lads and make sure they are treated well.

We cant spend too much time worrying about how to stop murphy, double marking him is definitely out as all the other forwards really stepping it up for donegal this year (Langan in particular will be a poty contender). Killian matched up quite well on mm last year so id say that will be same again. HuddHastings (Longford) - Posts: 77 - 18/11/2020 15:00:16 2311088 Link 0 |
In response to a flurry of DM requests following my successful tips/predictions and value bets over the last few rounds, below are this weekend's much anticipated and carefully considered selections. They have been selected with a heavy, heavy heart in most cases as I am hoping for a Cavan win. PatTheDandy (Cavan) - Posts: 282 - 18/11/2020 15:35:54 2311101 Link 1 |
disagree. We are never going to beat Donegal so damage limitation should be the order of the day. frustrate them. pack the defence and dont let the forwards run riot. If they score points from 30-40 yards fair play but dont let them near the goals. We did great to get this far, probably could and should have lost all 3 games. Dont be getting any notions that we can beat the likes of Donegal. We cant. So if we come out of Armagh with anything less than a 10 point defecit we can hold our heads up high and look forward to 2021.

Ah come on! To say we can't beat them is simply wrong. We can. It's unlikely, very unlikely, and the odds reflect that. Donegal are overwhelming favourites and if we were to beat them, it would take some considerable luck combined with a drop-off in performance from them and a marked improvement from ourselves. But we 100% need to go out looking to win the game. And that's what I fully expect Cavan to try and do. Anything less is not acceptable and this group of players and management have more about them than that. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 4135 - 19/11/2020 10:12:37 2311317 Link 1 |

We got out to win or we might as well stay at home. We did damage limitation in the first half in last year's final and where did it get us? kildare blue (Cavan) - Posts: 572 - 19/11/2020 11:52:02 2311359 Link 0 |
Big difference in Patton's kickout tho. Beggan is very good but Patton is out on his own. If we push up and force him to go long, he can still pick out a man 60 yards away. It essentially leaves us 1 v 1 all over the field if we push up. That's a very high-risk strategy. Look at the goal v Tyrone. Patton picked out Mogan on the run and Mogan first touched the ball on the Tyrone 45 running at the Tyrone defence!

Very defeatist attitude there. What will be the difference in 2021 apart from our slightly higher heads? Should we try to win Ulster next year? PatTheDandy (Cavan) - Posts: 282 - 19/11/2020 13:17:25 2311392 Link 0 |
Patton was professional with Sligo Rovers a few years ago, he'd be use to performing to a good level. I don't think there would be much difference in him and Beggans range. Beggan picked out some quality passes against Dublin in league earlier in year FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2216 - 19/11/2020 14:06:17 2311406 Link 0 |
Yeah, I reckon he's in line for a nomination alright. Faulkner, McKiernan, T Galligan all catching plenty of media attention too with their performances. A big game on Sunday from any of them will put them in contention.
