Offaly 0-32
Derry 1-12

Offaly put a line under their favourites' tag for this year’s Christy Ring Cup competition by dismantling Derry this afternoon in Newry.

Eoghan Cahill hit 0-16 for the victors over the 70 minutes at Pairc Esler, where Derry were simply second best to Michael Fennelly’s fired-up charges.

Cahill’s superb shooting saw the Faithful men lead by double figures at the break (0-16 to 0-6) and although Derry would get a lifeline via Richie Mullan’s scrappy goal seven minutes into the restart, they simply couldn’t scale the mountain here as they exited the competition.

Scores from Oisin Kelly, the deadly accurate Cahill and Liam Langton punished Derry further, having been reduced to 14 men with the dismissal of corner-back John Mullan.

Offaly went about their business as Sean Cleary pointed their 28th point within a minute of coming off the bench prior to Cahill (2), Thomas Geraghty and Brian Duignan round off the winning tally.
