Brilley, Fr Joseph

The death occurred on September 28 of the Very Reverend Joseph Brilley, Parish Priest of Drumraney and a native of Summerhill, Co. Meath.

Aged 71, Fr Brilley was greatly loved by the Drumraney parishioners, where he had served since 1998. He was a man of strong faith and deep spirituality, who was very much part of the communities he served. He was a great supporter of the local Maryland GAA club, of which he was a patron.

A latecomer to the priesthood - he was ordained in 1986 - Fr Brilley served as a curate in Kilbeggan from 1987 to '89. He was then appointed to Tyrrellspass parish where he remained until 1997 when he became Parish Priest of Dysart. He moved to Drumraney parish a year later following the death of Fr Andrew Rispin.
