Lambden, George

One of Westmeath's best-known public servants for many years, George was a talented sportsman in his youth. In 1968, he was part of the Colaiste Mhuire, Mullingar team that claimed the All-Ireland Colleges 'B' senior hurling title following victory over St. Mary's, Belfast in the final.

He was a great supporter of his local club Mullingar Shamrocks, who his sons Brian and Alan represented with distinction in recent times. Brian was wing back on the Westmeath team that won the All-Ireland U21 football title in 1999, while Alan captained the county minors to Leinster glory the following year, lining out at centre back.
