I wouldn't be touching b conlon POR or mckeever with a barge pole, Alan ford is a different kettle of fish and warrants inclusion, I don't know where Wallace was this year but he isn't any better then what's there now imo. Someone said earlier on here that Gallagher and Shane mcentee aren't up to it...... Shane mc isn't an intercounty midfielder but he would be a valuable squad member, but Jesus Christ regards Gallagher, what championship were you watching, he wasn't great yesterday in the 2nd half but I thought had an excellent 1st half, he totally marked Con o Callaghan out of it against dublin, COC scored 1-0 That day, but I think Gallagher might even have been gone off by the time he scored the goal...... he was excellent against Clare and had a brilliant league.....I'm honestly wondering did u type Gallagher by mistake

So many experts of all aspects of the game on here, its very surprising that our club standard is so bad ...with all this indept knowledge of skills, drills s &c etc on here from everyone involved with clubs the length and breath of the county, we should be competing for club Leinster year on year. .....Jesus Christ almighty

So now we are having OTT reactions after games meath aren't even involved in?? Jesus Christ almighty.....that sort of reasoning, well we didn't beat them and westmeath did so westmeath must be better then us, is the reasoning of a child, totally different game. If lads are worried after last night's result, by the same logic, they should be delighted cause we were the closest to beating Tyrone after Dublin last year so we must be in the top 4 or 5 teams in the country, both equally ridiculous. Anybody that says meath didn't actually play well last weekend either wasn't at the game or is just used to saying it at this stage.

A shocking indictment of the standard meath football has fallen too , And he gets it playing most if his club football in the forwards which is even more embarrassing for the county

Replying To Jackpot:  "Wont go near pt this weekend. A nothing game. Good year but we got a lucky draw."
I would of thought we go an unlucky draw, if losing Leinster finalists were in group 2 instead of losing Munster finalist we would have had Tyrone in croker and roscommon in Pairc tailteann......A far better chance of going through. And anyway who did Kerry beat to get to super 8s.....Clare and cork......it's amazing how Clare were labelled as tough sticky opponents for Kerry but a handy draw for us. Anyone that can go to PT Saturday and doesn't, and particular for such an idiotic reason as a "handy draw"..., doesn't really belong at meath matches anyway. Best year since the late noughties and up to div 1, regardless of what happens result wise the players deserve a full house.

Replying To latouche25:  "Well it's to be expected that Royal Dunne a la McEnroe, would bring out the CB spin. We achieved our goals for the year. The reality is. We scored 4 points in the Leinster final. The worst ever by a Meath team. We have played 2 games in the super 8's and have lost heavily in both. How or where have we improved under Mc Entee. He said he would put the foot back in Meath football, yet we are passing it more now than ever. Have we really gone to the point of bringing in a Louth man to help Meath football. The fact that he has his son on the team who is an average club player undermines his credibility. Kells have the best forward line in the county. Why is Hanlon Reilly or Matimo not on the panel. Indeed Oisin Reilly at midfield would be an option. If we want to improve its time to move on and bring in a manager who can unite the county. Mc Entee is to decisive"
Ah here........we've seen some ridiculous posts on here down through the years but we could have a winner. " how or where have we improved under mcentee" ..... are u serious, you should probably give the old football a miss for a while there lad, cause ya clearly don't know what your looking at. Yes, he should go out and boost the squad, but he favours a certain type player to fit into his preferred system, that's his perogitive as manager whether we like it or not and it has clearly gotten results, my club has a standout player that should be on it, but he isn't.....tough luck......the meath county board has made mistakes in the past, but anything other then offering Andy mc another 3 year extension would be the biggest mistake they have ever made, he'll move on to some other county and improve them, and we'd be stuck with some other ham, there would be a mass exodus as the players are now use to his meticulous professional set up, and others would be very reluctant to join up......yes Andy makes mistakes, All managers do...... we are in a possition we havnt been in in a while, division 1 football and underage talent coming through, the players need and deserve the best man available .... they have it right now.

Replying To bdbuddah:  "I disagree very much with negative comments, Burke has not ever being a flashy player but for Meath he has always been very effective because of the way the modern game is played. In Gaelic football now a days you need players capable of hard running and Burkie can keep running all day and is always available to give and receive passes. In the championship he was very consistent and did well in all games (very few Meath players can say this season). If you are the most effective player on your team this means you are the best player regardless if you are flashy or not. Well merited award."
So hard running and the ability to give and take a handpass.....that's it? So what your saying is that's his strength and what essentially has got him footballer of the year so???? The more yee lot argue my point the more yee are proving it. Also has he always been effective for meath?? I'm not too sure about that. An inconsistent but honest player would be a summation of his time with meath imo

I can't believe how delusional some meath fans have become.....i'm sure meath are gonna come out all guns blazing, fire in their bellies and pride in their jersey, infact I expect it, sure that's a minimum requirement , that's not a new and wonderful game plan that dublin will not have come across....it wont make a blind bit of difference, they will not beat Dublin and anybody that says otherwise or uses any of the above idioms to try convince themseves it can be done are just in soundbite territory and not actually looking at bare facts or looking at the 2 teams objectively. And the way I feel about the game Sunday week doesn't mean I'm less of a fan then those that say meath have a chance. It just means I'm a realist and not a fantasist. And like you royal dunne, my meath match attendances are in the 90 percent plus range , so I won't be told I'm less of a fan then you, or not to turn up just because I havnt got the blind optimism you have......and which you are entitled too have by the way, same way some of us are entitled to think it won't go so well, without being castigated for lack of loyalty.....and believe you me I'll take pleasure in saying I was wrong that Sunday evening if meath do pull it off. And as a side note....nothing that is said on here has any bearing on what way the team or any player will perform, so stop overvaluing your opinions.

Replying To Evernal:  "O Reilly was causing Carlow all sorts of problems. Yes he was dispossessed a few times but that just shows how much he was actually on the ball. He didn't hide once he got dispossessed unlike some. It's a wonderful trait to keep at it and if he was kept on I'm sure he would've ran riot. Especially against 14 men. Then yous would be all on here claiming he'd be deserving of an All Star..... such is the small margins! Flanagan was doing monumental work in the middle of the field. Just because he didn't get on the scoresheet like Menton he tends to get overlooked. Like I alluded to in the Offaly game he hit one superb foot pass to the inside forward line but they weren't on his wavelength and were the other side. Croke Park will really suit him and his range of passing."
Yea thomas oreilly was getting an a savage amount of ball and giving it away every time, just one of those days, had a great league and worth his place in my opinion just had a bad day simple as.... if everyone is fit you won't see Flanagan in croke park I'm afraid, just not athletic enough and he def needs to be much sharper in possession. The carlow midfielder was far better.then him till he got the red

O Byrne Cup 2019 - 15 Like(s)

Replying To MillerX:  "Listen we are stuck with Andy McEntee for at least another year, as should be, not because of any perceived overall improvement but because we just cannot go on changing managers at a whim. He was appointed probably on the back of getting a team to a minor final v Dublin where they produced an improved performance of that given in the Leinster final. This was achieved by the use of a sweeper for the entire game so it was damage limitation that succeeded for about 45 minutes. Also winning an All Ireland Club final looked good on a CV but there is a lot of difference between wining with a county, where you are restricted to selecting from players born or otherwise strictly linked by permanent residence to a county and winning with a Dublin club that can set their radar on literally any player in Ireland that they feel will improve their team. Now there is no question but that the match fitness of the team has improved no more complete fade outs that was experienced under MOD v Westmeath and Derry in particular. So why no overall improvement? To me I still think there is no consistent game plan, judgment is suspect and man management has also to be questioned. There were weary strong indicators of no game plan and poor judgment in the debacle v Kildare in Tullamore. Judgment was poor by continuing with a prematch warmup that should have been severely curtailed as conditions deteriorated that evening and as for a match plan or changing to plan B was clearly illustrated by the failure to make changes in the full back line and worst of all I could not understand why Cillian O'Sullivan was allowed to keep running through the center and he was supported by players running either side but the running support simply pulled up about 25 - 30 yds from goal when most required leaving Cillian completely isolated, getting bottled up or having to turn back out the field again. Man management? Taking off James Toher early in that game was to me the start as it showed no loyalty to a player who started that game very well and who may also be available to feed off O'Sullivan's runs as outlined above. As to whither man management is still an issue we may never know but the amount of walkouts from the various panels are not a good sign. Being passionate is fine but being over-passionate can cloud judgement."
Give me a few viable options to mcentee, realistic ones, that you feel would do a better job???? And please no unrealistic ones like jimmy mcguiness or silly ones like geraghty. Its quiet clear to see what his game plan is, it's a running one which depends on many support runners, now when a player gets isolated and has to come back or gets turned over, I'm not blaming Andy, I'm blaming the 3 or 4 lazy runners standing back gawking at their team mate. I agree it should be mixed a bit more with a direct ball, and maybe he's planning that with a return of Newman tormey etc. I also don't blame management for players leaving, if a player is gonna leave cause he gets a bit of agro from the manager or get a bit of verbal stick, then he's a total snowflake and no use to anyone in a game when the going gets tough. Other lads that left the panel last year were lads that probably didn't want to be there in the first place and were looking for any excuse to Jack it. Unfortunetely over the last 2 years I've seen the main issue in the players total lack of consistency, it's really bad, but that's all mental and again I'm not sure Andy can be blamed for that

You may disagree with micky been named player of the year. But as yet you have not said who should have got it, which is very ambiguous to say the least. So less of the hyperbole and name who should have got it."
Off the top of my head .....any dunboyne panelist ....I can think of at least 5 summerhill lads, particularly David Larkin. Actually how has Lavin or Robbie McCarthy not got it.....the more I think of it it's a truly absurd pick by whoever picks it.

The only thing I'll pull ya up on is saying that paddy Orourkes comment were admirable......disgraceful more like. If they are your opinions then keep them to yourself and show some loyalty to your mates that you played with and your county that has given you a fair bit too. For example not in a million years would you see a Kerry player coming out and slating his own county like that

Bar a couple of iffy performances, James mcentee has been very very good for last 2 years, def ahead of forde in the pecking order at wing back.

How is that well said, unless of course he is 8 or 9......a very childish and disprespectful response to insinuate that dunboyne are less meath men cause alot of dubs moved into the area i would have thought , yee seem to be going with the " either say meath will win or we'll abuse yee approach" . I'm not a dunboyne man but I know a fair few and staunch meath men is an understatement....maybe they are just a bit more pragmatic down that way and are hopeful rather then expectant. Just except some people aren't as optimistic as yee, it doesn't make them any less a meath man believe me.

I can't believe some of the negativity on here since Sunday. Anyone that can't see how possitive this league has been to date clearly has issues understanding meath football. Most of the criticism is total nit picking and proves what I always suspected, alot of lads on here are happier when meath are struggling. And if you ever read any of my posts before you would know I'm not a blind optimist, the improvement in performances is as clear as day

What happened in Tipp happened, draw a line and move forward. Ok Tobin was taken off when he shouldnt have been but i wouldnt say this would be classed as been treated poorly! They have had a couple of weeks to sort out the tactics and game play. I myself am positive about this game on Sunday and I reckon we will win by at least 4 points. Keep the faith lad...onwards and upwards!!"
Yea and the problem is I would say they have spent the last 2 weeks talking tactics tactics tactics....broken down into 10 minute segments.....player by player....where to be standing in the 28th minute......jesus if we can learn something from the dubs let it be this....jim Gavin has a general game plan...the players all know what it is....but individually the players are allowed express themselves and when they are attacking they are free to do so......its painful watching this micromanaged team having every bit of footballing intuition drained out of them....paralysed with fear....and not having a clue what the over complicated game plan they are supposed to be playing even is

Why do we deserve to know the team 2 days in advance? What difference does it make? Will u not go if it's not the team ya want? Just go get the programme and then youll see the team. Why do lads now want to see the team in advance I just don't get it. Maybe he doesn't know the team yet cause of injuries, in which case he names a few dummy players which causes an awful stir on here. He's not obliged to name anything beforehand and I agree with that simply because it's no big deal one way or the other

Replying To Jinxie:  "I think you'll find that there is precedent for games being moved. Most counties with have an alternative pitch put forward, like roscommon used kiltoom, Jonathan use iniskeen and so on. And in the past games have been moved outside the county, like roscommon moving their home game to longford. This is no b league football where we shove it in midweek when championship is over, a bit of proper planning is all that's being asked for. That pitch has been frozen all week, yet nothing is done until 90 mins before throw in. Total amatuerism at it's best ."
That pitch was unplayable at 3pm yesterday. Of course the weather isnt the referees or Cavans fault but the ridiculously late postponement and the lack of a viable alternative planned is.....as said before this isn't a b league match....if ya have to move to a neutral venue so be it and if a call was made when it should have been yesyerday afternoon there would have been loads of time to organise
