Replying To bert09:  "Has Andy lost the dressing room?"
Over-Coaching It looks like excessive input from the manger while the players are playing in such a way that the coach's input becomes debilitating to the player's ability to perform to the best of their ability and stifles their development. In short, the coach is playing instead of the player, making all of their decisions for them. Is over-coaching a problem? Is training 6 days a week also problem ? I see this as a problem. Too often, mangers feel an undue pressure to win games and therefore over-coach the players. As a result, at game time, and during practice, making it impossible for the players to enjoy themselves and express themselves on the field. What are the effects on players and coaches of over-coaching, both long and short term? Mostly, the players end up quitting. They do not want to subject themselves to this "hostile" environment of 6 day a week training . They rebel against the pressures and hyper supervision of the manager . If they do hang on, they lack creativity in their play, or the ability to solve the games' problems by themselves. Thus, their development is retarded and they are no longer able to meet the demands of the game at the next level. I think looking at the last two Meath losses it has Over-Coaching written all over it ! People will say you're only good as you're tools meaning that Andy doesn't have the players to work with to win matches ! I personally don't believe that...i seen here at our own club level eg Davy Cahill winning with teams that he had no right in winning with..basically he hadn't the tools if you want to call it that ! Best underage soccer system in the world ? England club Academies ! Still never won a world for the last 50 years ! Best underage rugby Academies in the world ? England and France not New Zealand ! just saying.

I thought Roscommon would win today because they a further down the line in development ,division one experience ,won connacht and a good mixture of underage teams winning on big days! Now when i think of it we should have beaten Roscommon by 8 or 9 points ! I am actually very happy about the result today because we need to work harder and if we do so god forbid me for saying this and i haven't said this for 20 years...we could very well have a good team on our hands!

it's still a football related topic,MeathOnHill16 wording of the tread topic may have been over the top ! But he still asked good questions on football related matters but people just got triggered by the heading ! He questioned the "3 sweepers behind ball so if we do turn it over we have no forward line to kick it to" which is a good point ! He questioned why harry Rooney wasn't starting He questioned ..We had a out ball all second half to Brian Conlon... Gallagher wouldn't look at him to give him ball and we could build up field kept booting ball into middle of field and we couldn't win anything He asked a lot of good questions but people decided to attack the heading rather than answer his questions ..which is his own mistake Maybe if his topic heading was.... Face Facts Worst tactically prepared Meath Team In Years people wouldn't have been triggered and may have created more of debate around his questions !

Tactics if Meath play Dublin next year? - 15 Like(s)

Replying To 3feetoftimber:  "Yep, both basketball and olympic handball coaches, they are all coaching Gaelic Football, or what passes for it now."
It's nearly a must to have a basketball coach involved in a inter county football team 3feetoftimber...personal i don't know if Andy has any? look at dublin or Mayo the little pauses in mid play ..a feint move to the right will create a yard of space on the left for a player to move into ! Dublin have skillful players..but most of it is a development skill not from gaa football but basketball ! Mayo are the kings of the tackle without question..but they only tackle for the ball without even touching the player like basketball ! people will say we don't have the players ..my thinking is we are not developing the players and molding them into a new modern day footballer ! David Beggy is probably the only gaa footballer suited for modern day football ..he is fast, worked hard of the ball, good tackler and getting back to help defence ! But he wasn't a gaelic footballer ,but Sean Boylan molded him and created him into what was suited for gaa football back then ! And David Beggy got two all stars ! You need something different you need to think outside the box,you can't copy defensive systems or Dublin or Mayo..we have to come up with our own way of play our system not anybody else's ! Because if you're copying others well you're doing things wrong!

Replying To Htaem:  "We've had a shocking League campaign so far but we need to win this game against Louth, otherwise I think there's a strong possibility of us being condemned to the pits of Division 3 again. It will be interesting to see how we react under pressure because the pressure really is on now, we have to get a result, don't forget if we lose and Down and Clare both win, then it's curtains for us anyway. We're not going to be challenging Div1 teams anytime soon but the the lads are better than what they're showing, it would be great to see them with the chins up, we can only hope it happens on Sunday."
I would agree with you Htaem it was a bad League campaign , But we are definitely not division 1 material and we are not bad enough to be a Division 3 either , we are a division 2 side and hopefully the lads will win the last two games . I feel sorry for Andy Mcentee, because at the start of the year couple of fans on here were talking up the idea of promotion and Andy is the messiah who will lead Meath back to glory ! Thats unbelievable expectation and pressure on Andy Mcentee and the lads..Andy and the footballers would deal with negativity better than whooped up unbelievable expectation ..but this build up of expectation on Andy is absolute joke and all it did was made him a target. When Andy Mcentee got the job ballyboden..there was no expectation or pressure on him,he did his thing and came under the radar and won all Ireland club title. Negativity is a good thing for Andy Mcentee ....look what Negativity did to Mick O'dowd, nearly every post on here is now how good a manger Mick O'dowd was ! And all he got was dogs abuse on here 2 years ago :/

We never really start good when it comes to the league ..and looking at the fixtures we could very well lose the first 3 games ! Every game is 50/50 ...i would be happy if we won 3 or 4 games and avoid relegation if i am honest . But looking forward to the games already

Keegan Cup - 15 Like(s)

Replying To Htaem:  "Undoubtedly some very entertaining knockout stages games in the Meath championship this year and that's what we need in Meath football, but it begs a very obvious question, why do we allow such a rubbish group stage system before the real stuff starts? Here's 2 things that really annoyed me about this years championship (ps, nothing personal against any of these teams): 1. Na Fianna made it to the KO stages having won just 1 out of 5 group games 2. St. Colmcille's and Rathkenny both lost 4 games out of 5 and didn't even have to play in a relegation play off 18 Senior teams is too many, 1 relegation is not enough and 3 groups of 6 is pathetic, you should only be able to lose a maximum of 1 game and still be in with a chance. Now I await the backlash."
i completely agree with everything you are saying Htaem ..i think senior should be 4 groups of 4 and who ever is at the bottom of the groups should be relegated ! I would have a intermediate and Junior conferences championship ! "Just for talk sake i have 32 teams" 8 groups of 4 Top 2 teams play in the intermediate championship (group winners and runner ups) , Bottom 2 teams play Junior. Semi final teams of intermediate championship qualify for senior championship the following year ! its a cut throat championship i will admit ...but you are getting more teams experiencing senior championship football.

Replying To Crinigan:  "Why would I name the players? Lots of people know who the players are who aren't interested in playing and that includes some who have travelled abroad. But obviously, I or anyone else are not going to name them on the hoganstand forum to be subject to the opinions of individuals like yourself who have no problem giving horrendous abuse to people who have given service to Meath like Mick O' Dowd and Paddy O' Rourke for example. Your posts usually consist of generalisms about getting behind the team and by jaysus we are Meath so we will win be gorrah. Maybe that's why you get so many dislikes on your posts? You also clearly have personal vendetta's based on God knows what against certain people like MOD. Why so vicious and personal in your attacks on MOD when Meath are performing no better under the current management. Is there really such a difference? MOD seemed to have the best players available playing for him (apart from 3 who he fell out with and who everyone knows). He didn't always pick Graham Reilly though, maybe that's it? I wouldn't pick him either as would many many others for reasons that have been mentioned ad nauseum on these pages. Nobody has actually called for management to step down or resign and nobody has said such and such should be made Meath manager. In fact, most people, including myself are supportive of them continuing on and are hopeful they can sort things out. However, people, who are actually genuinely Meath fans and not barstoolers who shout the loudest, are wondering though why so many players have left the panel. Its incredible to have to say this, but that actually makes them real fans, they want Meath to win, they want the best players to play for Meath, they are actually involved in Meath football (imagine!), see these players playing club football (imagine!) and so they are putting the questions out there."

Massive loss to the way Andy wants to play ...he was the link between defense and Attack. The only other player on the Meath team that can fit the role is Brian Menton playing in the half back position preferably left half back,When he plays there he is one of the best in that position!

Replying To royaldunne:  "Why do so many people have agendas. This place use to be for the purest among us, that lived and breathed Meath football, I'd argue night and day (well until 10p.m) with people of different viewpoints, and some times heatedly, (ask jinxie, Ziggy, loyaltoroyal etc) but despite our differing views we always knew that we had no agendas or axe to grind, our motives were pure. Those days are gone , the anti manager agendas and the man not in job a wet week are pathetic and leave a very sour taste in the mouth, they are some blatent ones an some opaque, but the agenda is always the same, undermining management and in turn undermining Meath football. Sad times"
Personally i don't think anybody has a agenda with Andy Mcentee at all...truthfully i would say 100% of Meath supporters are backing him ! If you read the people posts on here who seem to be given Andy a hard time ...its actually just a wash, rinse, repeat of what you posted about Mick O Dowd in his term as manger ,I kinda figured out what they were doing at the begin with ! In other words they just have agenda with you not Andy ! Remember if there is Agenda they might feel you started it :/ I backed Mick O Dowd 100% to the end...i will back Andy Mcentee 100% to the end. Now to the Discovery channel to watch Ancient Aliens :)... Now that we are on the subjected of "Ancient Aliens" i think Sky gaa needs new pundits :)

Replying To grahamc9897:  "What was that System"
percolating system :) It was a balanced expansive game ...we didn't have everyone back to a ultra defensive ...were last year it was more balance in committing numbers forward and back ,were we positioned our selves for the turnover ball and counter attack...were as we commit everyone to defend rather than counter now ..so in return by not countering direct we don't move direct as we did last year but a lateral laborious game type were it seems players are shackled in hitting a 30 meter foot pass ,its more now safety cautious game type risk free with no creativity ...a slow work ethic into a scoring position ! Down side it's just not working ! But look that's just my opinion

Plans For Moving Forward....If Any ! - 14 Like(s)
Anybody else think if we had a better kick out Strategy would do wonders for Andy Mac teams....the quality of passing coming from that area is very poor, Andy Mac wants his team to play a possession game type ,the fundamentals of this game type is a kick out Strategy and the goalkeepers hit rate of finding a player needs to be in the 80% rate ! Why is this lacking from the game plan ? Will i get accused of gassing the Syrian people because i asked the question about the lack of kick out strategy from Andy Macs team ?

Yes Tyrone look good, they will make it to the semi final or even the final this year. So it makes one think about the missed opportunity in Navan or how good we might actually be and what can we give Andy to make things a success ! Or we could think about how we lost against a poor division 3 team longford and what Andy needs for that ? p45 ? All joking aside but we can't reward failure either ..just look what we kept doing with MOD when he kept failing ..only to give him another year ! I am starting to think 2 years is long enough

Plus Cavan fans are not running away with wild ideas of promotion after the Meath game..their a cute lot up their in Cavan playing the poor mouth ! Here in Meath we have one or two lads talking about promotion after a win and a draw ! And if you try to be cute like the Cavan lads on here and play down our chances you are called negative :/ Anyway very flat today ...it look like the team took some kind of negative impact during the week that had a effect on the performance ....anything happen ? Anybody say anything ? I wasn't around this week i was away picking blueberries ... well ?

There is a right kind of protest and a wrong kind of protest ! The truth is the best kind of protest..I personally believe the championship is now to long on a calendar year for amateur players ! And fixtures don't seem to be less but more (super 8) Croke park is ran by sales men who think of profits first and people last ! So they are always going to find ways and means to make profits on the laboring back of armature players ! It's sad how croke park works ! My way of protest would be not to play the Leinster championship at all...give back the power to the club's, concentrate on our own club fixtures and let our players play more games for the club's rather that train the guts of yourself 6 days a week just to play two games in the Leinster championship ! It's stupidity for amateur sport ! Just play the back door system..if you win you win ..lose you lose ! Put in place a good club championship structure for all also I would love a over 38 championship in Meath because a lot of ex players still like to keep fit .... concentrate more on the under age football in Meath also ! Leinster championship is not worth a dam for 10 other counties that play in it...just give more power back to club football and not play the Leinster championship next year and go full throttle in the backdoor system... because if you play you're first game in the backdoor the next game is a week later...and the next game is the next week...3 games in three weeks instead of the Leinster championship 1 game every 3 weeks and player's wrapped up in cotton wool and not even allowed to fart !
