You can't use the excuse that the author doesn't know what PT is like either, since Jimmy Geoghegan has spent more time in PT than just about anyone alive.
As for slandering your friend; you're the one who brought him in to the conversation and attached his name to a patently false claim.

I won't claim to know who is or isn't on the panel, but find it funny when lads dismiss departures with "Well he wasn't a starter anyway so no loss".
Does that mean we only need 15 players in total on our championship panel?

Replying To Tirchonaill1: "Gaa were totally wrong to cease club activity, the Donegal county final could have went ahead next week behind closed doors, the wheels are coming off the cart big time, Gov and Nphet at loggerheads, confidence in CMO is gone, total mess, well done troika. idiots." The GAA didn't call off club games in response to anything NPHET or the government said. It was due to the regulations clearly being ignored in games up and down the country, with the final straw being the Blackrock celebrations.

Plans For Moving Forward....If Any ! - 15 Like(s)
At the time the Donegal performace last summer was heartening, but a week later that same Donegal team got beaten out the gate by Galway which put a bit of a dampener on things.

Replying To royaldunne: "Andy mcenetee has 1 year left after this. He must be allowed to get that year. To say anything else is only going to put us back further. Andy came in after we narrowly avoided relegation to division 3 , got well beat by Dublin and throw away a 6 point lead in Derry. After 4 years of that management, this is only league of year 2.
Barry Callaghan had a very good underage team last year and somehow managed to get them nowhere, Trevor Giles was part of mods team for 3 years and was there against the defeat to westmeath.
The only one worth considering is graham geraghty and I think he needs another couple of years before inevitable taking over. Just another thing out of the 9 players that left panel , how many would be starters ? Tobin? That's it." In 2016 when we "narrowly avoided relegation", we came 5th. If we win our remaining 2 games this year we will finish...5th.
That's a funny looking "improvement".

If anyone has ever heard of "The Mandela Effect" the Meath SFC is a great example. It's amazing the number of times I've read of people remembering the football being great at club and county level when we played 4 groups of 4. It's a myth though.
Some kind soul has taken the time to input 70 years worth of Meath SFC results and tables into wikipedia if you look. 2 things are worth noting looking at the last 40 years:
1. We've rarely had a settled championship. The format and number of teams changed pretty much year to year with anything from 13 to 20 teams in 2, 3 or 4 groups.
2. The famous 4 groups of 4 has occurred once. From 1998 till 2001 we had 4 groups alright, but some groups had 5 and some had 4. Eventually they got down to 4*4 for one year in 2002....and the following year moved to 2 groups of 8, which became 3 uneven groups about 5 years later, and 3 groups of 6 about 5 years after that.

Replying To ziggy320001: "From my own perspective, I have often said some of those teams were overrated. But I see more underage talent in Meath since the early 90s.
Generally coached better, organised better and looked after well. Out of curiousity, have you seen any of the underage teams lately?" No I haven't seen them lately, but it's irrelevant since I'm not talking them up, down, or sideways.
My point is that when I hear "serious minor team this year, talent beyond belief" I can't help but remember that I've heard that same thing said about our minors every year. Yet bar maybe 2012 they've been wrong every year.
It's a boy who cried wolf type situation. I can't take these claims seriously after them being wrongly spouted every year.

Club Fixture Madness.......Already. - 14 Like(s)
It'd take years to run a season's fixtures if we obeyed the complaints people have about them.
They don't like midweek games because players are coming home from Dublin.
They don't like games in February because the pitches are bad.
They don't want league games in september+october as they've lost interest in dead rubbers.
They don't want A and B league games on the same weekend because they want to field their A players in B league games.
They don't want to play championship in April because "it's too much of a break till the next round"
They don't want to play Saturdays because some people are working.
They don't want games in May because of college exams.
Etc.

Replying To gwanyagudthing: "From article on homepage:
"The external review with regard to the senior management and team has been completed. There was a good response to it from the manager and he has agreed to implement some of the suggestions. Only 25 of the 36 players who were asked responded to the questionaire."
I'm sure some guys were travelling or unavailable but for nearly 1/3 of the squad not to participate in the review is unforgivable. They are part of a group that is trying to achieve something together and this just signals a lack of buy-in. Tells you all you need to know. The county board should name and shame those who didn't respond." Yeah, threaten them with public abuse, that'll make players buy in to a system they're already disillusioned with...

Out of curiosity, has there been any year recently where our minors aren't a "seriously talented bunch" or full of "unbelievable talent"?
I've been on the site around 10 years now and every year without fail people say we've one of the best minor teams in Ireland that year.
How is it that these supposedly super talented teams keep winning nothing? I find it hard to believe that they are leaving championships behind them year after year. Its more likely that they just aren't that good to begin with.

2018 Club Championships - 14 Like(s)
Replying To MillerX: "Maybe in a month of Sundays Dunboyne may not have beaten Kilmacud as they would not work up the pressure that Mullinalaghta exerted on Kilmacud today. Lad and Lassies we have to change our Championship structure where loosing is extremely detrimental to ones chances of continuing in the championship. Mullinalaghta were up to the task all day, fell behind to an early goal, just kept going. In the second half the game appeared to follow "the script", but they plugged away did not let the lead become unmanageable and boy were they clinical when the opportunity arose. Mind you even the most outrageous underdogs will have moments in the sun in most games but they don't always avail of those moments, why? Belief is one reason and playing ALL the time for survival is another, cue change our championship now." It just won't happen. We don't value more competition and pushing ourselves to higher levels.
We value status. We value the fuzzy feeling lads get from knowing they're an intermediate/junior team even though they take 5 beatings a year and win 1 game to stay up. We value arbitrarily punishing 2nd teams so that 1st teams don't have their feelings hurt by losing to them. We value ridiculously large leagues so that loads of teams can claim to be division 1 or 2.

Replying To OLLIE: "Since 1970 there have been two Leinster Senior Club Finals between Meath and Dublin teams. In 1977 and 1994. Compare this to the Inter county Leinster Finals there have been seventeen finals between Meath and Dublin in that same period." Well it seems to be Meath clubs not holding up our end of that deal, Meath clubs have reached the final 6 times, Dublin clubs 31 times.
I wonder do we punch under our weight at club level or over our weight at county. (Or at least, punched above our weight once upon a time)

38 In-A-Row - 13 Like(s)
Replying To Offside_Rule: "Am I the only one who is seeing 38 Senior titles in a row and wondering what is going on in Waterford Ladies football that one team can win 38 titles in a row. 140 people in the village according to Wiki - is the Parish a lot bigger or how have they managed to maintain a stranglehold for almost 4 decades? Has their previous successes meant they are attracting players from beyond the village limits?
Imagine how useless you will feel if you are on the Ballymacarbry team that eventually loses a Senior Championship game given they haven't lost one in 38 years and counting." Yeah there is something very wrong there. The fact that over 4 decades not one other club in the county has managed to put together 15 players capable of beating them is ridiculous.
The whole "only a little village" line is one clubs and journalists love to stress. There could be 500 households in the surrounding countryside who can play for the club, but it's the population of the central village that they'll quote. I think every time I read a report about Mullinalaghta last winter their reported population got smaller and smaller. I was worried they'd soon not be able to field a team.

In the interview with the Chronicle before the Senior Football final I'm almost certain it said their manager was a member of the Dunshaughlin 3 in a row team. Sean Kelly is Dunboyne's coach and I'd say he'd be surprised as any of us to learn he's actually from Dunboyne....

Case Study: Longford Football To Connaught? - 13 Like(s)
Apart from the ridiculousness of the proposal, I'm disappointed in the blatant abuse of the term "case study".
1. It can't be called a case study as there is no case. You can't study something which never happened...
2. The poster did no study anyway, they just started with the conclusion.

Replying To Northsidegaels: "Hard luck to simonstown today, devastating, lomans are a serious side and will be hard stopped. Baffling how lomans scored 7 or 8 from frees (some very harsh) and simonstown got 1(missing none). For all the talk on here about the demise of our club championship I doubt anyone could argue that simonstown brought a bit of pride back to the meath jersey and delivered the most accomplished performances from the county champions in years, took a very good side to beat them and good luck to lomans." I'll be the one to argue so!
Beating a Wexford team before losing to a Westmeath team is a middling performace. Not humiliating by any measure, but in no way is it something for all of Meath to be proud of.

Tactics if Meath play Dublin next year? - 13 Like(s)
Replying To royaldunne: "Ok I will take the bait.
Firstly neither Meath or Kildare can play Dublin in quarters, for that matter neither can Westmeath, as the semifinal pairings from last Leinster are seeded so we can't play dubs Westmeath or Kildare in quarterfinals and it works same for them.
It has been like this for a number of years. How did you not know that?
Now to the other part. Put out our reserves. No.
Andy will in the tradition of Meath football not do a damage limitation exercise, he will not only put out the best he has available, they will take to the field believing they will win, when and if we should meet.
There is a lot of football to be played between now and then. I personally cannot wait til first week in Jan to go to obyrne game, then we have a tough league to try and gain division one status (andys stated goal). Roll on is what I say and f the begrudgers.
Hon the royal." Andy will in the tradition of Meath football not do a damage limitation exercise
Was it not Andy who set Meath up with 15 men behind the ball as a damage limitation exercise vs. Dublin in the 2012 All Ireland minor final, scoring 5 points in an hour of football?

I don't get the giving out about the relegation playoff. If you want to stay up then maybe you should put your effort into trying to to win just one game from 7 in the whole year.
If that's just a bridge too far (which it was for Ballivor this year) then you deserve to go down.
