Methinks that if it was a game against Boardsmill or Blackhall with the loser entering a relegation playoff, Dunderry would have been well able to field a competitive team. They obviously targeted the Boardsmill and Blackhall games and not even tried in the other 2 games they played so far (29 and 47 point losses). Fair play to them for that but to not even field a team in their last game is not on. Ratoath Royal (Meath) - Posts: 1198 - 21/08/2017 16:42:20 2036118 Link 11 |
huge lack of respect to kiltale also a days notice leaves no time for challenge match to be sorted not forgetting the 20 players on the panel who im sure could have made use of their weeknd instead of sitting around waiting for a game dunderry took the easy option hurlit (Meath) - Posts: 312 - 21/08/2017 16:43:02 2036119 Link 0 |
But unlike BHG and Boardsmill, Dunderry are completely safe. Regardless of tonight's results, Dunderry were going to finish 4th in the group while Kiltale were going to finish 1st. It had no bearing on how either team would finish in the group so comparing this game to Boardsmill and BHG's situation going into the last game is completely ignorant. And I don't know how many times it has to be repeated but "DUNDERRY DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH TO FIELD TONIGHT"! They had just enough for a team until Saturday when two players confirmed they couldn't play due to injury and a bereavement occurred in one other players family down the country which made him unavailable. If any other club was in the same situation, it would have been the exact same outcome!

Bit of a witch hunt this. We're not psychic lads, we're not taking the easy road and we're not proud of the fact that we genuinely can't get the numbers tonight but some things are just out of our control.

The management and players of Dunderry are proud and straight up people. Up until Sat evening they had 16 players then because of a brevement in a players family and blowin27 (Meath) - Posts: 25 - 21/08/2017 18:55:01 2036152 Link 0 |
Ratoath beat Trim, Trim are out, Ratoath into the quarter, Dunboyne into the semi. Some result and good to see new blood in the hurling LeitrimRoyal99 (Meath) - Posts: 833 - 21/08/2017 20:30:18 2036171 Link 10 |
That was a belter of a game, both teams gave it their all. The penalty save seemed to give Ratoath that extra incentive and that's when the game seemed to really change. B52M (Meath) - Posts: 10 - 21/08/2017 21:16:11 2036186 Link 0 |
Get in!!! Without the likes of McMahon and Gavin McGowan makes it even more impressive. Ratoath Royal (Meath) - Posts: 1198 - 21/08/2017 21:24:19 2036188 Link 10 |
You have a long memory! All i remember is people being full of praise and saying that Ratoath bring a breath of fresh air to the SHC.

As the poster above says, if this game had any bearing on their Senior status I have no doubt Dundreary would have fielded a team tonight. Wedgie (Meath) - Posts: 253 - 21/08/2017 22:58:09 2036223 Link 0 |
Great result for Ratoath and for club hurling in Meath. Will be a force to be reckoned with if they can get McGowan back. Kildalkey and Dunboyne between them and a final, no reason why they couldn't make it. Contrary to RatoathRoyal i believe i stated on here that Ratoath would be more than able to compete in senior after seeing them in Intermediate final last year. begining (UK) - Posts: 277 - 22/08/2017 09:16:34 2036278 Link 0 |
How will reform next year do away with 'meaningless' games...? What will it do about teams that have no interest in actually competing at senior level and just give up once they've done enough to retain their status as Senior? The truth is the SHC needs to shed at least four clubs that are really only intermediate standard, there's no point in being in it if you're afraid to field against the top clubs especially when there's no sanction for so doing. I have to agree, reform is so badly needed, we have 20 hurling clubs in the county and 12 of them play the top grade. Doesnt make sense, Ratoath are no real surprise in terms of qualifying, they will improve by retaining their status and will grow in the senior status. Dont see them going beyond the qtr final. Hurling clubs need to push for change.

Good to see the Ratoath result last night. It will be good for hurling in the county. It goes to show that a lot of good work done at juvenile level eventually will come through. 3feetoftimber (Meath) - Posts: 103 - 22/08/2017 12:08:24 2036344 Link 0 |
I think it's a sad reflection on the state of senior hurling in the county. Just when it looks like hurling is on the up something like this happens and undermines it. I can't believe that Dunderry don't have 15 players to play this game, I'd say they re just boxing clever here and making sure they don't get any injuries for the football. hootervillian (Meath) - Posts: 302 - 22/08/2017 14:44:44 2036416 Link 0 |
Was at game in navan last night. Trim were not as hungry as Ratoath plain and simple. overthehill72 (Meath) - Posts: 334 - 22/08/2017 16:10:11 2036448 Link 0 |
I called it after Ratoath played Clann na gael that ratoath would win, that was without Mcgowan,Mcmahon and 2 o Hanrahan's! 36inchash (Dublin) - Posts: 20 - 23/08/2017 22:46:22 2036966 Link 0 |

Fancy ratoath to beat kildalkey. Kildalkey struggled to beat a poor BHG team. Ratoath getting better with each game and will be even better if Gavin McGowan is back. thekillercrow (Meath) - Posts: 26 - 01/09/2017 12:27:02 2041543 Link 0 |
