Group A is the weaker draw. Kiltale will be odds on favorites and rightly so. Kildalkey and killyon best chance of dethroning them.

over the last few years this is the best balance we have had in the championship draws, round 1 kiltale and kildalkey will be interesting game, however not detrimental to whoever loses as both will qualify with either killyon or BHG, losers of Boardsmill and dunderry in relegation, The other group should see kilmessan top with Trim and Dunboyne to also qualify, maybe longwood might surprise one ot 2 here with Clan Na Gael in relegation playoff, Team relegated team this year will be CNG. Group A definitely the must interesting - any 3 from Trim, Kilmessan, Ratoath, Dunboyne or Longwood could qualify. Ratoath are definitely the strongest Intermediate winners we've had in a long time. Clann na Gael will be in the relegation. Belt (Meath) - Posts: 205 - 08/03/2017 13:59:17 1965431 Link 0 |
I'd be shocked if Longwood qualify. They've Burke and the 2 Healys, but after that they've nothing near the quality needed. I think they've won only 2 games in the last 2 years, vs. Boardsmill and Navan. CastleBravo (Meath) - Posts: 1391 - 08/03/2017 18:05:51 1965517 Link 11 |
Groups fairly balanced, first time in good few years that we should get the next 6 teams in the county into knockout stages. toon (Meath) - Posts: 246 - 08/03/2017 18:51:56 1965531 Link 0 |
2 x U-21 winners last year with Meath as well as a couple of county minors this year . . Couple of Fitzgibbon cup lads coming back from injury too . . I reckon Longwood will do OK.

Longwood will avoid relegation alright, but I can't remember them beating a strong team since 2013. They brought Dunboyne to extra time 2 or 3 years ago, and drew with Killyon last year, but other than that it's been a handful of wins vs. Boardsmill, Rathmolyon, Navan etc. in the last 3 years or so. Longwood could push for quarter final easily with anthony healy back. Ratoath be no pushovers also. Clann na nGael destined for relegation this year I'm afraid. Trim and Kilmessan will definitely qualify, then its between ratoath dunboyne and longwood. Other group is straight forward. Killyon and Kildalkey will qualify along with Kiltale obviously. Dunderry and boardsmill game will determine who plays Clann na nGael in relegation. overthehill72 (Meath) - Posts: 334 - 09/03/2017 13:57:29 1965678 Link 0 |
Cant argue with anyones predictions really as the groups are well balanced this year. Kiltale will have to be at their best to win it out again as last year they took their eyes off the prize on a few occasions and were nearly caught out. I'm going to throw my hat into the ring and back trim to be in the final. The age old story of having a good mixture of youth and experience is really coming to the fore this year. They have an abundance of scorers in the front six and should have too much fire power for most of the teams. Irish_downunder (Meath) - Posts: 476 - 09/03/2017 14:53:19 1965699 Link 0 |
I here Trim have a lad from Wexford playing with them this year, seemingly works and live in trim. word is he is a very good player gardentree (Meath) - Posts: 194 - 10/03/2017 14:11:50 1965989 Link 0 |
Would this player be a possible addition to the county panel?

Group A should be interesting. Kilmessan and Trim both looking to do well however a lot are sleeping on Dunboyne this year. Coming off winning u21 championship with a lot of young talent coming through, could be dangerous. Group B should be dominated by Kiltale and will be interesting to see who grabs second between Killyon and Kildalkey. Clann Na Gael looking most likely for relegation.

Well with the championship kicking of this weekend how do people see the games goin. Flash27 (Meath) - Posts: 54 - 29/05/2017 19:51:56 1991935 Link 0 |
Kiltale v Kildalkey. Looking forward to this game, Kiltale are undoubtedly the team to beat and have a lot of pace and talented hurlers, Kildalkey while solid in defence will struggle to score enough especially with Derek Doran missing. Surely as this game has been 'held over' until the Tuesday after the Louth game, Alan Douglas and James Toher will be lining out for Trim. Is this not the reason for playing the games involving county footballers, Longwood and Ratoath etc after the Leinster SFC game? MillerX (Meath) - Posts: 742 - 30/05/2017 22:06:46 1992423 Link 0 |
County board had no issue fixing killyon to play on saturday despite adam flanagan being on the Meath team or panel for sunday.

Sorry that one slipped past me....absolute disgrace but I will put it down to incompetence rather than something more sinister.

Think he joined the panel late enough into the championship last year if I remember correctly. May be the reason their game is Saturday night. Otherwise their being hard done by.
