2017 Fixtures planner

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

By the fact that there's been no comment as yet on the new fixtures planner it seems like people are happy enough with the plan. I think some of the lessons learned from 2016 have been implemented and hopefully we wont have as many problems and uncertainty. I like the idea of playing the cup games early so people know for certain they'll be played. Not sure why the final is 4 months after the semi finals though.

It looks good on paper but the proof will be in how much its abided by, by both the fixtures committee and the clubs themselves. Once clubs start looking for changes due to weddings/stags/fundraising events then we run into hassle.

I'm not involved by the way.

Seems it was sent to clubs and they just put it on their social media. Looks good apart from that big gap in the knockout competitions but that's being picky. Later championship start is sensible

1st round of Championships pencilled in for weekend 20th may, hopefully county's football and hurling teams still busy in April the thinking here I suppose , plenty of league and cup fixtures to keep us busy till then also will leave the championships more condensed later in the year, agree with this once they start keep them going, progress of county team will have its usual affect on how championships progress

8 Rounds of the A League fixed before championship starts.
This is quite sensible.
If there is a break with the county team doing well there will be league games played in between the group stages of championships.
Should also help with issues of teams struggling or not fielding in the later league rounds when they are out of the championship.

students will have to give these a miss, we cant have it every way. i think anyone who ever did exams in college always missed a few games over their career for that. if meath had a knock out championship or may be a 2 group games we could work around it. but with the mammoth championship / league we have then games should defo not be postponed

I am very critical of the planner in the past but i think they are trying to sort the problems out, still might not get it 100% but at least the board are showing compassion for the GAA players.

Colm ORourke Sunday independent

"Meath County Board published a master fixtures plan last week which covers from February to August. There are the normal provisos and after August most clubs will have no football until next February which is a particular gripe of mine. Yet at a minimum this plan guarantees club players 20 games between the beginning of next month and August.

That is what all counties should be doing. Yes, clubs will have to play league matches without their county players but so be it. At least the majority are being catered for. If the CPA could get something similar in every county they could melt away like the recent snow.

It's usually the February county board meeting, so Feb 6th I'd say.
