Replying To MillerX:  "Even though we were under strength we were eliminated by under strength Division 3 & 2 teams not exactly a show of strength from our reserves. Wasn't at today's game but was listening and we lost at the lead at the death by playing 'keep ball' rather than going for the insurance point. Viewing tapes of the 80s team should be mandatory viewing for those boys, create a bit of belief to keep going no matter what. And I would also throw in the full 80 minutes of the 1970 Leinster Final as well."
No we lost at the end cause O'Sullivan after been instructed to pass ball back went for a long range point, much to the annoyances of his captain menton , the ball fell short and Westmeath worked it up quickly and we had to foul at end. If they had kept playing keep ball we would have won. That is a fact as Westmeath weren't getting a hand on us. It was the bizarre decision to launch a Hail Mary effort that cost us the win. Plain and simple.

It was the exact opposite, Cillian went for a shot and dropped it short. If we held the ball for 30 more seconds Westmeath may not have got a chance to level it

Cillian O Sullivan made a big difference to Meath when he came on. An enjoyable game though for mid December with both teams having generally experimental teams out.

RD, I think you may have been beside me!! If you had a girl with you around 13/14 I think it may have been you!!

Bryan McMahon was brilliant in the first half before he was taken off I thought. Brían Conlon fairly good in the 2nd half, spoiled lots of Westmeath attacks. Won dirty ball and did decent on their kickouts. Shane Walsh was 5/5 on his frees so that's good. Jack O'Connor was very exciting in the first half. Rarely gave the ball away, kicked a great score with his left to start the game and set up the goal with a great solo run. Did miss 2 or 3 frees albeit tough ones.

That is priceless.

"Wasn't at the game but here is what happened..." before proceeding to get it completely wrong and arseways. If ever a post summed up a place.

Poor enough performance all round but I wouldn't be getting too worried in December. I would imagine they're doing plenty of heavy training at minute.

Thought Brin Conlon did very well in midfield and Jack O Connor looked lively in the first half. We pumped a lot of high ball into Shane Walsh in the second half which wasn't very effective and the Westmeath full back looked comfortable.

The Westmeath goal came directly from a kick out also which was disappointing as it's an issue that has been really costing us in the past year and needs to be ironed out moving forward.

Good to hear some new lads are starting to making a impression. I wasn't at the Westmeath game but was at the Louth game I and I didn't see anything that excited me to be honest. Sounds like Breen Conlon played well at midfield. Breen struggled badly in the Louth game so that's a positive. We need options in Midfield there is nothing new in that. Also I we need more options in the forward line. Hopefully Shane Walsh will come through. and some others also.

Agreed with you there Bob, we lack an impact from our bench that chips in a few scores. If you look at all the top teams they've players coming in and adding multiple scores and that's what we need too if we hope to bridge the gap even slightly. Hopefully with Lenihan and Wallace being back involved and the likes of O'Connor, Morris and Costello coming through and Shane Walsh with a full pre season we could have that impact. My concern is that a lot of these guys are inside forwards and we lack a conductor at 11 with two up and down guys either side. Ideally James McEntee is one of those players and if we could get another one we could leave Cillian O'Sullivan closer to goals. Maybe with Walsh inside you could bring Mickey Newman out to 11 and let him play that kind of role.

Another midfield option or two would be fantastic. Conlon and Devine should be given chances with Menton to see if either could form an effective partnership. Any word on Ronan Jones? Is he done and dusted with county football. I thought he was in America for two years study. Is he even in the country??

If we can keep adding depth over the next couple of years and minimising the players leaving we should be in a position to challenge when the Dublin downturn happens. I'm not saying it'll be this year or next or even five years from now but we need to build on what we did last year and start the dawn of this new era rather then last year being the exception.

I tell you who caught my eye apart from O'Connor was Murtagh, now he only got about ten minutes on the field before he got injured but immediately he impressed me, big strong midfield type and he was going for everything, 10 mins is not enough obviously to make a decision but he could be a option

Jones has finished his studies but has a job in America. Now I think he'll be home sometime in the spring-early summer but not sure how his work commitments play out after that. Also Matthew Costello is more of an 11 than an inside forward I think

Given our disastrous start to the season I think Andy McEntee should do the right thing and step aside. It would give a new coach time to bed in for the National league.

Disappointing to not advance in this competition. Was a good chance to pick up some silverware early on and instill some confidence. Hated losing especially to Louth, bitter rivals

are you being serious? Andy is trying to find new players to add to the panel. This is the opportunity to do that. Think it was pretty obvious that we need a new keeper and Yorke and Hogan have been given a chance. We need a midfield partner for Menton, Keoghan was tried and Conlon did well on Saturday. Some half forwards are needed and again we gave some players a chance.

The players are in heavy training as they'll need to hit the ground running to hold onto a division one position.

I'm hoping against hope you're just being sarcastic with that comment.
