Replying To Royalblufill:  "Meath's 2020 Allianz Football League fixtures:

Round 1: Tyrone v Meath (away)

Round 2: Meath v Donegal (home)

Round 3: Meath v Mayo (home)

Round 4: Kerry v Meath (away)

Round 5: Meath v Galway (home)

Round 6: Dublin v Meath (away)

Round 7: Monaghan v Meath (away)

Couple of comments and questions on this:

* Is home advantage that big a deal in Gaelic Football?

Working on the basis that it is an advantage - having 4 away games can't be good!

Dublin, Kerry and Tyrone away - probably 3 teams you would struggle to beat at home anyway so maybe from that point of view the draw isn't too bad! I think we could beat Tyrone anyway!

I'd be happy having Donegal, Mayo and Galway at home

The last game against Monaghan could be critical - they have been on a bit of a slide this year and with a new manager next year could be vulnerable to the drop!!"
Look for once I'll try to temper my optimism.
I think like this year we will probably start the league fitter and further on than most counties in it .
For that I can see a win in Tyrone, we might just squeeze donegal in navan, two games two wins , great start. But neither is a given. Mayo at home? Would love to say we will win, but can't call this one, I'd rate donegal as been better, but I feel mayo will want another league title. Kerry in Kerry? No that's a loss .galway at home. Feel we will win this one. Dublin towards end of league and players pushing for 6. We won't win, so another loss . Monaghan in clones (for some reason I really hate that ground) but if we are to make progress we have to be winning that one.
To summarize Tyrone Galway Monaghan wins. Donegal mayo 50/50 (hopefully win one)
Kerry and Dublin loses.
We hopefully be safe. But not one of these games will be easy, total focus is a must. We have waited a long time for division one football let's make sure we stay there.
Hon the royal.

Great to see the fixtures, we were too long away from the top table, 2006 was the last time we played in Div1 (but there were 2 Division ones back then), I think it was 1997 since we played in a standalone Div1.

Anyway staying up will of course be very tough but that has to be the aim if we're serious about progressing.

As far as the fixtures go, realistically I would say we have little chance away to Kerry and Dublin but the other 5 fixtures are winnable. Now don't get me wrong Tyrone, Donegal, Mayo, Galway and Monaghan are all good teams but we have to get it into our heads that we're every bit as good. If we put these teams up on a pedestal then we won't get much change out of any of them.

Great to have these fixtures to look forward to. No matter what, it be brilliant experience for the lads and can only bring us on. Realistically, this year will be about survival in Div 1 and trying to cement ourselves as a top 6 team. I would expect management will want to hit the ground running so we should be reasonably competitive. 6 points would probably keep us up. We are unlikely to beat Dublin or Kerry away so we really need to target the home games and try and pick up a point or two on the road. I could see us heading to Clones on the last day still needing a result.

Meath will be going at the league hard in order to survive.

Would 2 victories be enough? It was last year. I believe we can stay up, last game at Monaghan could be a relegation decider, I think we can turn mayo over at home also and Galway / tyrone are inconsistent in the league. I think we are better than galway.

Will be a major struggle for Survival as all teams will target us for the 2 points. Home games are huge. Have to try to win 2 out of the 3 at home, big ask. Think Monaghan will be scrapping for survival on the last day and would love 4 points before then.

Not the worst draw. Dublin, Kerry and Tyrone away. We have the more beatable teams except Monaghan all at home. The last game could well be a winner takes all survival playoff.

You generally need 6 points to stay up. Only one team has been unlucky enough to make the drop from Div1 with 6 points in the 12 seasons of NFL since the re-format in 2008 and the was Cork in 2016.

That year Donegal, Mayo, Monaghan and Cork all finished on 6pts with Cork having the worst score difference and hence making the drop.

See below averages for 12 seasons from positions 5-8 in Division 1:

Postion P W D L Pts
5 7 3.1 0.5 3.4 6.7
6 7 2.5 0.5 4.0 5.5
7 7 1.7 1.0 4.3 4.3
8 7 0.8 0.3 5.8 2.0

Very exciting seeing us on this fixture list for once! Tyrone away will be hard but doable. Mayo at home next will be huge. The stand and terrace will be wedged. Mayo usually take it easy early on so we have a chance here. Kerry away will be tough but expect them to take an extended break and not be at full throttle. Galway at home again winnable.

I think we need at least 3 wins at this stage because I wouldn't fancy needing a result against monaghan or Dublin. Can't wait. Hopefully Andy gets them together early and has them flying come February.
