Fair play to Bryan Menton for calling out a Meath business for congratulating Dublin and saying 'Sam is coming home'. It is not on - http://hoganstand.com/Meath/Article/Index/304027 49erroyal (Meath) - Posts: 53 - 16/09/2019 17:03:32 2236223 Link 2 |
Completely out of line. Fair enough if they had a post saying "Congratulations to our member Dean Rock on creating history" or something like that, but saying they brought Sam 'home' to Dublin again is just stupid and they had to know it would spark outrage in the community. There is enough rubbish about Ashbourne, Ratoath and the likes being 'Dublin' clubs without this happening as well.

Absolutely, fair enough to congratulate the All Ireland winners and Dean Rock but not in the manner they did it. You wouldn't have seen Dublin, Louth or Westmeath businesses congratulating Meath like that when we won All-Irelands! oldsam_newsam (Meath) - Posts: 638 - 16/09/2019 18:43:55 2236280 Link 1 |

This is exactly the statement we want from our captain. We are Meath a county steeped in football history. How can we ever compete with Dublin again when our own people are not behind the county. Ashbourne credit union should be ashamed of themselves For letting that go online and not even acknowledging the Meath ladies in an all Ireland final the same weekend. 9699Royal (Meath) - Posts: 1 - 16/09/2019 22:00:21 2236382 Link 0 |
What was more shocking was the admin of that Facebook page deleting comments of those who questioned why they were seemingly siding with the Dubs and giving no acknowledgement to local GAA, an almost unbelievable PR disaster for a financial institution that has many local Meath people as customers and as founding members. Fair play to Brian for calling them out over it... the post was very poorly thought out and in poor taste. longroadback (Meath) - Posts: 300 - 17/09/2019 09:16:45 2236493 Link 0 |
Take a hard line on what?? A credit Union or a business which has nothing to with the Clubs coming out with a disgraceful statement..what has it got to do with the Clubs.

Well club members can be encouraged not to use the business of such premises. Players expressing affiliation with Dublin or going to trials or playing with Dublin underage teams should not be picked for underage club teams and should be told in no uncertain terms to go to their parents club in Finglas, Ballymun etc. This is a Meath club, proud of its history and traditions and that of its county - either integrate or p*** off. This is literally a cultural conflict against people who no zero respect for Meath people and the county of Meath- do you want Ashbourne to stay within Meath? Do you want Ashbourne to play in the Dublin club championship? What do think will happen when the committees and executive of Donoghmore Ashbourne and a majority of its members are Dublin people - you think they won't try to ensure Ashbourne joins Dublin club championship to ensure their little Anto gets to play for Dublin? You think they'll be happy to stay in Meath club championship? Crinigan (Meath) - Posts: 926 - 17/09/2019 11:52:37 2236553 Link 8 |
I agree on one point. If they are talented and want to play for inter county football underage they should be playing for Meath. If they want to play for Dublin go and play for a Dublin club. As far as not picking players who support Dublin or have an affiliation to Dublin. Not sure you can go down that road of not picking players because they support a certain county. Where does it stop. If a young player is in the Club and supports kildare or westmeath because his parents are from kildare or westmeath do we stop picking him too? Or if the family moved out from Dublin when the young player was 8 or 9 years old? Do we tell him he can't support dublin if you want to play for a Meath club? How do we police that? If we see him walking down the street with a dublin top on do we ban him from the club? Do we do background checks on all the young players who are supporting Dublin in the club to see which of them are actually originally from dublin and which of them are only Dublin fans because their parents are from Dublin? 100% if their playing for a Meath club they should be made play inter county for Meath. Everything else u can't really force a child to support a certain county in order to be allowed play for a club. Also I think your being extremely over dramatic regarding the border club's going to play in the Dublin Championship. That will never ever happen no matter who's involved the Club committees. No 1. Your underestimating how many staunch meath people are still involved heavily in these clubs and would not let that happened in a million years. No 2 . Why would these senior club's who have a genuine chance of winning the Championship every year go an play in Dublin where at best they'd be a bottom tier senior club battling relegation. That point you made is extremely far fetched and unrealistic.

An initiative such as no county jerseys at training or on the club premises would help. I know that sounds drastic but if you are trying to create a club ethos and get people to integrate and buy in, then people and families should not be differentiating themselves within a club - something we all know a lot (not all) Dublin people are doing in Meath towns and clubs. I would not suggest players who are Dublin people not being picked (obviously!) but if they are trialing with Dublin, playing with Dublin or stating it clearly that they will move to Dublin club X, Y or Z upon reaching u16 level up, then frankly they shouldn't be accommodated. The rules state you play with your parish team up to minors 18.after that they do what they like.its up to the clubs to get these young girls/ boys to love and respect there club.regardless of parents we are a community based organisation with a strong and solid base in ireland.letting all who want to get involved with us welcome on board again regardless of race religion etc.lets not go down this route.credit union made a big bobo let them rectify it now.no need for rubbish talk bout borders. 100% on your last point. If they are talented enough to play under age inter county it's with meath. If u want to play for Dublin even at u14 well then go and play for a Dublin club. Your 1st point on banning county jerseys at training or on club premises. Does that include meath jerseys?? It would probably have to therefore could not see that working.

Under the parent rule with underage you can play for your fathers club or county so dean rock is fine, we have the same issue down on the westmeath, offaly border, you win some, you loose some but that rule is there, i am sure the credit union regrets its post but they should have put more thought into it, i have been called a BIFFO many a time at club level in meath as my club is ballinabrackey, the border clubs take it more personal because we are very proud of our roots and county. thelutch (Meath) - Posts: 856 - 17/09/2019 13:18:57 2236590 Link 0 |
