If Ratoath don't walk this they'll have messed up big time. A top 8 senior team should not have a 2nd team in Junior B, especially one with as many young players as Ratoath LeitrimRoyal99 (Meath) - Posts: 833 - 15/09/2019 01:15:42 2235434 Link 11 |
If that's your theory then Simonstown should walk it Their second team is junior B and they have won 2of the last 3 Keegan cups They are well better then Ratoath at senior and Junior B head4dblackspot (Meath) - Posts: 447 - 15/09/2019 10:30:45 2235483 Link 0 |
Simonstown??? Surely one of the best teams in the county shouldn't have a second team in Junior B? Regardless, the point is moot given that all second and third teams are separated from next season. Ratoath Royal (Meath) - Posts: 1198 - 15/09/2019 11:48:24 2235527 Link 11 |
Both Simonstown and Ratoath shouldn't have a 2nd team at Junior B. I'd say Ratoath are better due to fact they are hammering teams so far and that their team is mostly mad up of minor and 17's winning sides of 2017. Yeah the separating of 2nd and 3rd teams is going to be a disaster for young players in bigger clubs like Ratoath, Don/Ash, Cilles and Dunboyne

Why is a disaster? Would have thought this premiership idea was great for the second teams - much more competitive games!

How are the games more competitive for the best bigger clubs. The B league division 1 is a farce. The said at the trophy presentation this year that the cup was presented for 16 years and only Dunboyne or Don/Ash ever won it. Not very competitive really

How will they much more competitive games? What difference will there be from the games they played v each other this year?? They are all already in a group together for junior A Championship so it'll be exactly the same only next year the top 2 won't be going on to play 1st teams . Look at the B League Division 1. Only ever been 2 winners. Ashbourne and Dunboyne. So I suspect this reserve team championship will be the same for a good while.

The B league is a bit farcical alright but there are A league games the same, championship is always a different story and will be again next year. The structure will help benefit the like of Ratoath, Simonstown and other second teams in Junior B or lower, the likes of Ashbourne and Dunboyne in Intermediate though will see a slight drop in standard. The new structure will help first teams mainly however I don't think it will be an absolute disaster for the second teams, and most certainly won't go the same way as the leagues have.........hopefully not anyway.

Also the fact that between Dunboyne and Ashbourne they managed only 1 win and that was when they both played each other it shows they are not up to Intermediate standard and this new structure will provide a more competitive playing field for the players with a chance of championship silverwear

Agree that the intermediate grade looks too strong for their 2nd teams . But then why not just leave them in junior A where they are already competitive. Let them play each other in the group stages and by the time they get out to play a first team they have lost all the players they are gonna lose to their own first team so no advantage of having a load of lads playing for 1 game who go senior the following game . At least they get to play proper championship football. From listening to a few of my workmates who play reserve team championship in Dublin and kildare and they said it's just not the same . Hardly anyone goes to watch it the intensity not the same and a lot of lads have walked away because not the same buzz as playing real championship and having a pop and decent Junior A 1st team. Anyway it's done now so no going back but seems to the reserve championship will just be a glorified B League. Plenty of one sided games in that.

Definitely will help the 1st teams mainly. I suspect Dunboyne winning Junior A and Na Fianna winning Junior B last year greatly helped those who were pushing for the change. Will be interesting to see how the new structure plays out over the next few years

Does anybody know the quarter final lineup for the junior B .....now that the group games are all played? ghostrider (Meath) - Posts: 28 - 16/09/2019 13:03:30 2236068 Link 0 |
I am talking purely about Championship only and I meant specifically that a championship for the 2nd teams solely - I think the leagues have issues of there own! In my view, a championship focused purely on second teams will allow those larger clubs offer their players a really competitive competition. In my view, the higher standard the second teams play at the better it is for the 1st team in that club, so I feel it plays a little into the hands of the larger clubs! Interesting that Dunboyne and Ashbourne are the only two winners of B league - I wasn't aware of that. Interesting that they are also Intermediate championship! They obviously have been the 'best' second teams fro a while. I think this is down to having the biggest playing numbers. They both field 4 teams with teams at Senior, Intermediate, Junior B and Junior D. Anyway, maybe I am wrong - just a view! ASaminthehand (Meath) - Posts: 292 - 16/09/2019 13:05:47 2236070 Link 0 |
Boardsmill v St Pat's Kilbride v Dunboyne Trim v Ratoath Slane v Simonstown Nearly sure that's the pairings but could be wrong BrokenStickz (Meath) - Posts: 3 - 16/09/2019 13:35:24 2236081 Link 0 |
Yeah I get you were just on about championship. I just wonder will the 2nd team championship end up like the B League Division 1 with those 2 teams dominating it. Also the larger club's like dunboyne and ashbourne would say they already are offering their players competitive competition. What's better prep to make the step up to senior? Playing v other 2nd teams or playing 1st teams in Intermediate or in Junior A if u get out of the 2nd team group. Playing a 2nd team championship will not be a higher standard than intermediate or the business end of Junior A Championship.

Yeah - maybe you are right. I certainly agree that Intermediate is a step up and you can see that in the results with Ashbourne and Dunboyne finishing at the bottom of their group. It will be interesting to see who comes through in the A and B championships this year though.

Ghostrider posted this earlier; Boardsmill v St Pat's Kilbride v Dunboyne Trim v Ratoath Slane v Simonstown I heard the draw wasn't being made until Wednesday but this does look like the way it should be looking at the leagues. Maybe it will come out like that But definitely not drawn yet head4dblackspot (Meath) - Posts: 447 - 16/09/2019 16:28:49 2236197 Link 0 |
It's not a draw, pairings are pre-determined based on group standings. They are the quarter final pairing. Looking like 2 good, competitive semi finals, I'm predicting: Boardsmill v Kilbride Simonstown v Ratoath Belt (Meath) - Posts: 205 - 16/09/2019 17:01:44 2236219 Link 0 |
