i would like to see breakdown of that 200k hurlit (Meath) - Posts: 312 - 22/08/2019 21:12:56 2228630 Link 0 |
Could potentially see Spuddy O'Hallaron as the man for this job. Knows the players, says it as it is. Meathman678 (Meath) - Posts: 55 - 22/08/2019 22:37:58 2228657 Link 0 |
Would be interesting to see a breakdown on how this 200 k could be spent . On what ....I Can understand a few buses to matches ,after match meals ,and a physio ,but beyond that it's hard to credit . Likewise on the football team .....I would really like to know who is getting all this money ,given that the players ,managers and selectors are free gratis ......also I hear a lot of talk about pouring money into juvenile and underage .....what does this mean also ? ....this is dangerous FAI like territory and no transparency breeds this type of suspicion .....once again ...if we are not paying players ,managers ,coaches ,selectors ...then the caterers ,buses ,and physios are milking us ? noluso (Meath) - Posts: 151 - 23/08/2019 08:26:13 2228686 Link 0 |
inter county players get mileage and food after every training, 2 physios also and this is for 4 nights a week. so it could be 4k a week easily to run a standard inter county team with the above costs. then nutritional allowance of €30 a week I think it is, 2 pairs of boots, maybe €1,000 of other gear, transport and other match day costs, recording a game, food before and after game, i am actually surprised the 200k figure is not double that overthehill72 (Meath) - Posts: 334 - 23/08/2019 10:11:43 2228697 Link 0 |

If you want to run a county hurling team expect it to cost that and more. It is not questioned in Counties like wexford where they gave their county a huge lift by winning Leinster Championship , but the optics of it look big in weaker Counties where people not involved dont even know there is a County Hurling team Ashrules (Dublin) - Posts: 342 - 23/08/2019 11:14:23 2228721 Link 0 |
Yes but now look at wexford footballers.

If the hurlers spent 200k with a basic set up and players hardly getting the red carpet on away trips to games etc hurlit (Meath) - Posts: 312 - 23/08/2019 12:15:20 2228744 Link 0 |

so goping back to the initial question, who are the contenders likely to be, dont see martin ennis or john andrews going back as managers, donr see joe quaid coming in as he has a 5 man team with him, dont see any former top tier guys looking foir it, StickFan (Meath) - Posts: 192 - 23/08/2019 14:38:17 2228790 Link 0 |

Just save money and let the Hurling Development Committee manage the team!!! Why oh Why when we make a bit of progress does the f..ng wheels have to come off? Dark forces at play here in this county. A former guru rants 'burn the hurls' guess what the chairman of the meeting allows the remarks to stand, instead of demanding that the remarks be withdrawn he allows them to fester...now if that is not inviting death by a thousand cut then what is it? Let me remind ALL readers here, when Meath were at the top of the heap in football the hurlers were not far behind, I.e. beating Wexford and Offaly in the League and scaring the sh1t out of Offaly when they were real All Ireland contenders, both won All Ireland's within two years of such reverses to our hurlers. Admittedly the footballers have had a good year (hurlers likewise) but there is not the slightest hint that we must row back because Pairc Tealtean is being redeveloped and why should there be but the hurling posters here are preparing for the worst. Hurling people of Meath demand a decent manager for our team, we beat Down reasonably easily in the Christy Ring Final this year. Yet they could afford to bring the Rock O'Sullivan all the way from Cork to assist them. Why for once did we beat teams like Down, Kildare etc easily? Because management took the job seriously and professionally but MOST of all, the team had been playing teams of a higher caliber for the past two years, even more, the two games against Antrim in 2016 brought that team on a lot. And fair play to them they maintained their standards and imposed those standards on all teams in the Christy Ring this year. So why must we all of a sudden accept anything thrown at us? No we must not. I am not demanding a Davy Fitz or a Micheal Donohoe but it simply cannot be a novice. Martin McCullagh or Ryan O'Dwyer or Joe Quaid would be fine as managers but the backup that they require should also be made available without question. Won the league, got to the Joe Mc final. Do you think westmeath are all ireland contenders or something?

they won the league.yeah but westmeath could have been possibly been up in div 1a for the last 3 years anyway only for the play off scenario..as regards the joe mcdonagh they got to the final in 2018 too so nothing changed and probably gave a better performance in the preliminary qtr final last year compared to the cork game this year...i dont know was he that great of a success in Kildare either bringing in a lot of outside players getting quick results but in the long run the team has suffered as these players have left and gone back to their own counties leaving a void to be filled in the team. as regards Meath i wonder would John Davis go back and take the job again maybe, he was reasonably successful when he was in charge and knows the game and club scene in meath v well i presume. preddan (Kildare) - Posts: 497 - 31/08/2019 10:37:53 2230933 Link 0 |

Nick Weir has the gig. Next question, who is along with him. MillerX (Meath) - Posts: 742 - 03/10/2019 00:42:26 2241079 Link 0 |
Whilst I've nothing against the man imo he goosed from the start. Alot of the top players wont bother their bums. Plus in a higher competition meaning in for a few beatings and the year will be over very quick. Foley91 (Meath) - Posts: 339 - 11/10/2019 00:59:03 2242711 Link 0 |
