I know its a bit premature with semi finals and final to play but for the first time in over a decade, we might just get our 1st all-star award. Huge competition in half backline but Keoghan deserves one on his performances all year and could get one maybe in full backline. Believe Lavin, McGill and Menton also deserve nominations. winatallcost (Meath) - Posts: 237 - 07/08/2019 22:14:03 2222481 Link 4 |
Please don't start this nonsence ! We really don't have even a remote chance of an all star . I know some would suggest that keoghan might have a chance of a nomination. I hope he does ,,, but to be suggesting others is such a waste of time . Let's stay real and forget about all stars for now please !

Nonsense?? Meath played 8 championship matches this year and had a number of top performers in each game. Did you go to any? The championship is now at all-Ireland semi stage. I suggest you try and name the best 6 backs in the country on form. Players that play well consistently deserve their nominations.

Keoghan will certainly get nomination, and possibly one of either lavin or mcgill due to the lack of out and out full backs out there......but none will get within an arses roar of an actual all star. southmeathgael (Meath) - Posts: 709 - 09/08/2019 10:38:08 2222958 Link 10 |
You have just mentioned 3 likely all-star nominees but then say none will be in an "arses roar of getting one". You have just contradicted yourself here. I would argue that McCaffrey, Boyle and McHugh are likely all-stars in the backs. Even McHugh had a poor outing the last day but can you name the 3 best in full backline? Genuinely think we have a good chance of getting one.

How has he contradicted himself? He has acknowledged that these lads might get a nomination but have zero chance of actually getting an all star. Just because you are nominated doesn't mean you actually have a chance. Sure they nominate a good few in each position. For what's it's worth it think Keoghan has a genuine chance of getting one. The other 2 might scrape into the nominations but definitely won't get one.

I'd be very surprised if we got an All Star. The All Ireland finalists will have 10 between them, then another 3-4 for the semi finalists/provincial winners. I don't see them giving an All Star to a team who lost every game they played against top opposition. CastleBravo (Meath) - Posts: 1391 - 09/08/2019 14:19:10 2223035 Link 11 |
i think we will get 2 or 3 nominations but none will get an award

Is getting nominated for something without getting it not defined a being the closest thing? I would assume nowhere near may be not getting nominated at all. Plus the general consensus seems to be that Keogan may actually get one. For your information "the good few in each "position you are referring to is only 3 for each position. 18 backs, 18 forwards and 6 midfielders. If it were the old system with everyone confined to exact positions, McGill would feature strongly as would Lavin given the lack of top players in the fullback line. At the moment, however I would definitely have Keogan in the top 6 defenders based on this years form.

We will get nominations this year. Awards will follow next year... bert09 (Meath) - Posts: 1668 - 09/08/2019 16:25:39 2223112 Link 0 |
Do ya realise how many lads get nominated?? You'll find 75% of nominations are token gestures to fill up the spaces, unfortunetely keogan will be in the competitive end of them space fillers........hes not gonna get it ahead of either Dublin wing backs or the all Ireland losing ones unless the script is totally flipped.

Look I've learned that particular poster has a very anti Meath bias. He along with his other user multiple personalities will now log in and out and red thumb this post 6 times , which will prove they anything but a Meath supporter. Of course keoghan deserves a all star and I'd say he will get one, and you are right lavin and Menton will get nominated (lavin definitely ). But looking forward to the nominations.

Yes I do. Did you read my post? It says 3 per position or 3 keepers, 18 defenders, 6 midfielders and 18 forwards. Thats 3 + 18 + 6 + 18 = 45. I hope this clears up your confusion. So 2/3 won't get any all-star or 66% so not sure how 75% can be making up numbers comes from. Either of Dublin wingbacks? So you would give John Small an all-star ahead of Keogan?

It seems that way.

In my own view, Meath have a handful of very good players, top class even. Keogan is very good and after years at the periphery of the championship, quietly saving our blushes many times, he finally received the acclaim he deserves this year. Lavin and McGill were very good, Lavin being the more consistent. Menton was very good. I'd say at a stretch that Gallagher, Harnan, Campion, Devine and particularly Walsh have serious potential also to grow, and as players reach that level as top players/possible all star potential. I'd say the mainstay of the rest of the panel are average or slightly above nationwide inter-county standard. We've very good foundations here. We do however need maybe 4/5 new players. Just to be absolutely clear ...I have never red thumbed any post on this forum ,or indeed logged in as any other user ! However I have found that you have a very blinkered and parochial view of meath football ,and consider any opinion contrary to your own as being unacceptable . If you are getting red thumbs it's from other users who are possibly bored to tears reading your blinkered opinions . We have as much chance of getting nominations for all stars as the Kilkenny senior footballers full back line . While Keogan has performed quite well relative to other meath players. , he is considered outstanding only among this group . However on a national stage he will not come within an asses roar of an all star in his position ,although I do hope he get a nomination . I suggest you reconsider your post concerning padding the goalposts before anyone should take your posts in a serious way again .

So who from the full backlines from todays teams will get nominations instead of our players? My current nominations are shown below. There are a few iffy ones and would certainly name our three on the list. You can see most on the list are half backs but doesn't matter based on how they are selected Dublin McCaffrey, McCarthy, Fitzsimons, probably Cooper with another game after final Kerry Tom O'Sullivan, Paul Murphy Tyrone, McNamee, Burns, Mayo, Boyle, Barrett, Durcan Donegal, McFadden Ferry, McHugh, McMenamin Meath, McGill, Lavin, Keogan Roscommon, Niall Daly winatallcost (Meath) - Posts: 237 - 11/08/2019 22:04:38 2224317 Link 0 |
CORK?

Maybe Mattie Taylor or James Loughrey but their better performers were all in the forwards. Would see the Meath defenders named ahead of any of the cork lads.
