100% agree! Not good for the club players or county players! P

Yes, wouldn't be the biggest deal to swap the round of hurling down for the 18th Aug with that round of football on the 11th Aug, it wouldn't affect any other weekend. You would have two rounds of football in a row then but can't have it every way!

yes i think we should wait until october to give the county lads sufficient time to recover. club players can wait another 2 months and we can have the SFC final on Stephen's Day. overthehill72 (Meath) - Posts: 334 - 17/07/2019 09:23:18 2212208 Link 1 |
This would be the best solution. Don't think playing 2 rounds of club football championship in a row would be a problem it's been done often enough before so I agree . Swap the hurling championship to 11th of August and put the football championship back to the 18th.

Got the revised fixture planner on Friday. Royal_Gunner (Meath) - Posts: 534 - 17/07/2019 13:30:56 2212337 Link 0 |
The hurling championship started 5 days after Christy Ring Final for a majority of Meath's starting team and that was after 5 games in 6 weeks. No complaining from county hurlers or their clubs. Just get on with the football club championship for the sake of all club players waiting and planning around schedule. Redsalltheway (Meath) - Posts: 112 - 17/07/2019 13:47:18 2212342 Link 3 |
Agreed. Also what happens if (even if it's unlikely) Meath qualifies for all ire semis?

its hard to believe sometimes how 20 players can dictate to a entire county. hurlit (Meath) - Posts: 312 - 17/07/2019 17:35:59 2212455 Link 1 |
Do GAA players really do more work than a professional soccer player, and really need that much extra recovery time? The latter play week in week out. I see absolutely no reason to delay club championships when they already have a week to recover then play. Ludicrous all of these delays. meathgaa91 (Meath) - Posts: 47 - 17/07/2019 19:41:34 2212506 Link 0 |
People need to get off this club player high horse and stop this attitude of having an agenda against the county team. I thought those days were gone. Anmhi364 (Meath) - Posts: 41 - 18/07/2019 03:45:30 2212614 Link 1 |
GAA players are amateur. That's the difference, not near as much recovery time.

The players could do with a break yes , but sadly the planner is out since last friday and people have made plans around it so its to late to change it, otherwise whats the point of a planner? I would wonder what percentage of comments on here to change the date are from actual players who it will directly effect ? fine for supporters who dont play to say change it as it makes no odds to them. Some clubs havnt even had a a league game to keep them interested since early june hurlit (Meath) - Posts: 312 - 18/07/2019 09:58:55 2212659 Link 1 |
County Footballers put in a big shift on top of their day jobs to represent the County in the all Ireland Championship and deserve to be facilitated . If they need a Month between County Championship and club Championship to rest and get going again it is not unreasonable. Ashrules (Dublin) - Posts: 342 - 18/07/2019 11:36:52 2212709 Link 0 |
Would these same county players have had an issue if they had to play a 4th game a week after the Kerry game versus another inter county team? I don't think so personally. Club football is the reason any of these lads get a chance to represent their counties at the end of the day. If your able to get through 3 super 8 games in 4 weeks then without question you should be able to tog out and perform for your club 7 days later. And be itching to play at that as well. In no way is this slating the Meath panel because they have given us more than we even dreamed of in 2019 and are a credit to their clubs but people are reading too much into this welfare agenda. I'd have more of an issue with lads been called back in to train in November and the likes after having basically maximum a month off to rest providing how far your club goes in Championship

Hurling is not the same sport as football. Physical demands of football are much greater - for example, a lot more running in football.

Couldn't agree more and that's a great point - nothing being said about "welfare" when Meath will literally have played 3 games in 3 weeks come this Sunday (and would play for a longer period I'm sure if they were asked to). With the conditioning and programs county players are on these days, they have more than enough means to recover for another championship game. Amateur and professional soccer players do it week in week out for 9 months - and although it's not as physical, their games are 30% longer. No reason there should be another delay to this championship.

What you mean to tell us Meath won't beat Mayo by 10 and Kerry by 4 or 5? Very unlike you

Interesting observation. But intercounty Gaelic Football games are different in that they are more intensive than other sports and club games, also they involve more travel so overall on top of working for a living are wearing on players. To be blunt about it super 8 games are about revenue generation and to hell with player welfare. Meath CB cant control this but it would be good to see them at least putting players first. These are the things that long term make counties more successful. Ashrules (Dublin) - Posts: 342 - 19/07/2019 10:14:00 2213064 Link 1 |
Oh the irony....."not fair on the club's to have their star players getting 2 training sessions with their team before massive championship games" how about the Hurling clubs who have to play most of a championship without their biggest players because of a manager that threatens people for asking a simple question about such a thing. I can only imagine what he is saying to players behind closed doors. Anyway back to the point the fixtures are set now, play the games and get on with it. Lads will have time off and holidays booked now around the planner. Planning paid jobs around an amateur sport and expecting them to change it is ridiculous. hurlinglad15 (Meath) - Posts: 36 - 20/07/2019 10:09:46 2213438 Link 3 |
