Just another day in the life of a Meath supporter . Won't kick Colgan when he's down but will ask why Andy McEntter allowed the lad to be totally exposed yet again . Has to be held accountable for his non action all year. royalpad (Meath) - Posts: 46 - 21/07/2019 20:45:27 2214261 Link 0 |
So u reckon o coilean is not being picked in the 26 because of Andys pride and stubbornness. Get a grip will ya. If he was being stubborn why have him on the panel at all? I've no idea why is he's not being picked in the 26 but fairly sure it's nothing to do with Andys pride.

There has been an air of inevitability around this result all week, kickouts would be a problem, Meath would be competitive for 55/60 minutes then fatigue would set in and lack of quality within panel would be exposed. I agree this group are playing to their potential and unless we can unearth new talent then this is as good as it gets. Cannot fault them for effort and they have brightened the summer months for most supporters. Its way too easy to lay blame at Colgens door ( has to take full responsibility for penno) this issue has been there all season and management have to take a fair share of blame. Stayed to watch second game, we have a very long road ahead to get anywhere near that level.

Por has no interest in playing for Meath. Also let's be honest, cast our mind back, por cost us just as much as colgan. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 17035 - 21/07/2019 21:02:59 2214284 Link 2 |
Disappointed for sure with result today but great to be playing football into August all the same. bert09 (Meath) - Posts: 1668 - 21/07/2019 21:04:23 2214285 Link 0 |
You've got to be kidding me, where you watching the same game as me today, if that is him playing well i wouldn't want to see an off day as 2-2 came directly from his mistakes. I feel that there would be a lot more moment if we had a keeper who could hit kick outs to players chests on the run. The difference between Colgan and Paton from donegal is clear for everyone to see and I feel if we had him in goals today we would have most of our kick outs as his skill set is in a different world compared to Colgan. I completely disagree with the leaderless and weak comment about the outfield players, they have performed to a high level giving everything they've got in the tank every game and in Keogan and Menton we have to real leaders in the middle third. Also what a childish comment at the end no need for it in my opinion

Colgan not to blame fully for kick outs,a lot of the time there was no movement, then he has to hit it long which gives us a 50/50 chance at best.We don't have seem to have a clear plan.Mayo(and Donegal last week) had the ball back in Plath before the umpire had the flag down,we are way too slow!!Stick with this team,we have genuine class in Lavin,McGill,!Keoghan,J Mc Entee,Harnan,Menton,we are just short up front.Walsh is a real prospect, conlon needs to be used as an impact sub, hopefully Lenihan is back next year, and we un earth a couple more .Need to drive on in the League and stay in Div 1,we will be stronger for it this time next year. Paddy isn't wrong. We won't get close to Dublin for the next 10 years. No chance. The underage talent they have coming through is scary. Our underage is improving but it won't beat dublin's talent for the next decade. We have improved and should be better if certain players would commit. Brennan the keeper or Hanlon from Kells to name two. Maybe after this year they will. Winning a Div 1 league is the highest honour we could realistically win and should be the aim of the team. After that worry about making the super 8's or an all Ireland semi final. Jack_Goff (Meath) - Posts: 2920 - 21/07/2019 21:27:56 2214304 Link 11 |
Gary Rogers a Meath man who incidentally was part of the coaching staff playing excellent stuff in the Champions League for Dundalk. If only he were available even though he is getting on. Brendan Murphy was outstanding and handed over to POR whi did well initially partically with those launchers to Big Joe but his form and concentration tailored off badly. At the moment a solid keeper with a good kicking technique would surely be a significant improvement on what we have. Concentrate on goalkeeper, a midfielder and a couple of forwards and we are not too far away.

I cant imagine how frustrating it must be for our backs to see our forwards hit so many wides and drop so many balls short, fair play to seamus lavin he was so sick of it he stormed up and hit 2 great scores, keoghan and mcgill would make any team in the country, lavin, harnan and gallagher are all excellent too, but this is as poor a bunch of forwards that meath have had in a long long time, goalkeeper and midfield is an issue too but lets not kid ourselves it's the forwards that are killing our chances of beating any of the top teams redser123 (Meath) - Posts: 306 - 21/07/2019 21:30:03 2214308 Link 1 |
Hopefully he will sign up for another 3 years. We cannot start chopping and changing again. Consistentcy is what's needed going forward. Andy must be left to finish the job he started. Also keep colm nally, whatever Andy requires for next year should be given to him. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 17035 - 21/07/2019 21:30:18 2214309 Link 0 |
Would you agree that the short kick out is just another facet of the modern game Meath were slow to adopt. Right now we are in limbo re kick out strategy. Do we risk going long, rely on Menton alone to win primary possession or do we wait, hearts in mouths for It to go short with a 75 % chance of us conceding anyway?

I did not agree with paddy o Rourke statements in the past but I do think Andy will have to swallow his pride and ask either him robbie burlingham or Jack hannigan back in to asses the goalkeeper situation as I for one believe either of the above would have kept us closer in both games. Colgan has tried his best and fair play to him but under high ball he has been found out a couple of times ie donegal during the league and Clare during the championship. thebigjoeshow (Meath) - Posts: 63 - 21/07/2019 21:33:10 2214314 Link 0 |
To be fair, any team at any inter county level should be capitalizing on silly mistakes. Realistically we left about 1-5 or 1-6 behind us today.

Disappointed again with the end result, the effort and workrate didn't deserve that but when you miss chances and make simple mistakes that cost you possession experienced teams like Mayo will punish you, that's what we need to learn from and that's why playing these super 8 games is so important so our players can learn from playing top level opposition. We have the nucleus of a good competitive team, we need a few additions and some need experience of games like today and last week but I'm a glass half full guy and I consider that 2019 has been a progressive year, our best since the 2007-10 period. Management must stay in place, our young players stay in place we have a Division 1 football to look forward too next year and a game with Kerry in Navan to enjoy yet and that's what the players should do go out and enjoy it and play with abandon in front of our own supporters and we should be there in numbers to support them and show appreciation for what has been achieved this year. Another 9 point loss on paper but we didnt deserve to lose by that much similar to last weekend. Watching the kickouts absolutely no movement at all for colgon, both midfielders are not midfielders and are out of position neither can catch a high ball. Once again our forwards were brutal Newman didnt do much before going off and Conlon is thrown in the deep end at too young of age. This team is crying out for a Stephen Bray kind of player who can hold the ball up front and shoot from both feet. Brennan was a loss today . Totally agree ! POR has no interest in playing for meath now or in the future . Called it right when he said we had little or no chance of featuring in the business end of the championship for the next few years. Although he should not have expressed in publicly . He was an erratic keeper and coughed up a heap of scores . Colgan is only a number of guys who are below par ...at least 5 of our 6 forwards in this boat.,but I suppose it's easier to blame the keeper . noluso (Meath) - Posts: 151 - 21/07/2019 22:07:05 2214350 Link 0 |
