It took Boylan 4 years Late Eugene McGee 4 years and Mick Dwyer 5 years to make the breakthrough in leinster. There are no overnight sucesses in gaa exception Dublin in 1974 kerry in 1975 and Meath in 1996. It takes years of slow progress slow building, bad defeats , morale victories anf hard luck stories before a county suceeds in achieving its aims. Even current Dublin team it took allot of those players years of close misses and bad loses to suceeed. They were operating at a higher level to us but it took Dublin from 2005 where they were 5th best team in country to 2011 to become 1st best team. They had close loses to Tyrone kerry Cork and Mayo and bad hammerings to Meath and kerry. Meath are at lower level but we have gone from 15th best team in the country to the 7th in current rankings. The next step is break into top 6 and stay there. It will be very very tough. But it takes years of a slow build to achieve this. There are no overnight sucesses in gaelic football. But we are improving we r getting better we have one youngest teams in the country which will peak in 2021 2022. Maybe we wouldnt suceed. But we are definitely going in right direction and we have a chance of suceeding. Next summer we sud be stronger. look at Roscommon this year after ten ganes v div 1. Judge this Meath team in next years championship and 2021 . Thats when we will peak as a team . Furlong1949 (Meath) - Posts: 1046 - 20/07/2019 17:49:56 2213585 Link 12 |
Well said sir. You'd swear some of these posters claiming to be from Meath weren't at all.

Supposedly there is some truth in the O'Connor injury. Talking to a Mayo man and he is of the opinion that its true. David (Meath) - Posts: 566 - 20/07/2019 18:55:13 2213614 Link 0 |
9 points ? .... Shud have added " blown out of the water in the last 15 mins ......unfortunly the last 15 of every match are more important than the first 55 ? Anyway hope we can get our first proper result of the championship tomorrow ..... We're in with a chance as Mayo looked out on their feet v Kerry

Again in last 15 mins we created two goal chances and sent some aimless ball in, we got done by a goal at the end and missed our chances. It's all well and good giving out to people being positive but this sort of lazy negativity for a young up and coming team who have performed well is absolutely ridiculous. I get the sense half the people on here will never be happy. If we win tomorrow it will be because of mayo's demise. I'd say 2 out of 3 comments on here are negative and bashing a side who have improved leaps and bounds. Who in their right mind would be bothered playing for the county when, even if you do well, it's slighted and more negativity. The biggest difference between Meath and the top sides is between the ears. Belief and composure under pressure. The constant negativity from their own "supporters" helps no one Thejoeshow (Meath) - Posts: 468 - 20/07/2019 19:53:12 2213640 Link 3 |

Meath played Very well against Dublin imo, the scoreboard just didn't back it up unfortunately, and I'm aware the scoreboard is.all that matters but every other stat backs up my point bar meaths score tally......when u see what con Callaghan did today for example, it really shines a possitive light on Gallagher....... kept him scoreless. Infact dublins starting forwards only scored 1- 5 from play and the goal was very late on..... plus 3 of them were mannion

Brilliant post. Couldn't have put it better myself. Lets support the senior footballers & management. David (Meath) - Posts: 566 - 20/07/2019 22:28:56 2213745 Link 1 |
So because they hammered other teams it's ok for Dublin to hammer Meath. Wasnt acceptable in the 80s 90s or 00 and it shouldn't be now. The players themselves would say that.

Meath need a good start tomorrow. Its vital. The last 2 defeats we've been chasing the game from the off. Mayo will allow for gaps at the back and we need to exploit all opportunities. Very excited about tomorrows game as I feel with Mayo's injuries we've a massive chance. On another note, isn't it fantastic to have a team that we can follow that is competing at this level. Meath football needs to be back in the super 8's on a regular basis, and I feel win or lose in the next two games, we' ll have taken plenty of lessons and positives to help us build on going into next year RealTalk101 (Meath) - Posts: 21 - 20/07/2019 23:00:48 2213765 Link 1 |
Yeah buy Dublin also didn't have a turnover of about 7 million through the 80's or 90's and were a different ball game all together. No meath team of the past would beat this Dublin team. Wake up and smell the coffee. This meath team are quite good and not far off the rest.

Should you not be encouraging the Meath supporters to take over Hill16 like the dubs. As Brian Cody said "championship games are for winning. Teams are constantly in transition" I dont buy into this rebuilding talk. Boylan never bought into it either. Plenty of his teams operated in Div 2

Best wishes to Andy Bryan Donal and the lads today. Let's beat Mayo convincely and put to bed all these so called moral victories where we've actually been beaten. I'm sick of them. Evernal (Meath) - Posts: 43 - 21/07/2019 11:13:12 2213886 Link 0 |
I fully expect this will be the best Meath performance to date.....and that may be enough. We have to get at least 50/50 at midfield and no mucking about on our kick outs. Colgan kick out as far as you can and we plan for breaking ball ..We have to use our speed merchants fully this time against a tired Mayo team. Not very scientific maybe but maybe we just need to let the players feel the freedom to express themselves more. with quick direct football as far as possible. We may not win the all Ireland this year but we can let them know we are better than some so called pundits say. Our replacements have to be proven hard workers who will give it everything in the last 10/15 mins. Our physical fitness should be ok . Our mental fitness ......go for it lads you have nothing to fear but fear itself.........Meath to win!!!!

Am I right that Graham Reilly isn't even on the bench? Saw a line up online without him included. LoyalRoyal (None) - Posts: 414 - 21/07/2019 12:39:51 2213911 Link 0 |
