Mickey Burke would be a first team hurler for Longwood, as would both Conor McGill and Bryan McMahon for Ratoath.

I heard third round of hurling championship is August bank holiday weekend. This is a total disgrace by county board as it is usually 'builders holidays' around that time and two weeks into July there is still no master fixture planner. LADS WILL LOSE INTEREST if we don't get these fools out of our county!! Meathgaalad (Meath) - Posts: 120 - 10/07/2019 13:17:16 2209031 Link 0 |
It's the weekend of the 20th July according to the fixture planner, why would this change? Also the suggestion of playing the hurling champo from April to June is ridiculous - clubs wouldn't have their county hurlers in May or June, never mind their county footballers! Anyway the proposed 2 week holiday break around August bank holiday has been gone for the last 2 or 3 years, it's no longer a thing Belt (Meath) - Posts: 205 - 10/07/2019 13:37:05 2209045 Link 0 |
Ethan Devine is a regular hurler with Na Fianna and he started on Sunday and Shane Walsh also hurls with them. Both did not play on Monday night. So effectively they had to put out a League team. This dilutes the championship.

April or June is just a suggestion. We need to condense the championship in order that it can be played off without gaps. The current set up is ridiculous. Lads training from February with no knowledge of when they'll be playing is a joke. Foley91 (Meath) - Posts: 339 - 10/07/2019 14:04:29 2209057 Link 1 |

Why does Hurling have to be the poor relation in Meath? Lads chose to play football, that is up to them. There are multiple reasons for not being available for Club Hurling. Lads play soccer, rugby etc. They get married. Holidays. Work commitments, injuries, etc. Stick to the script and play with what you have. It's hard enough with lack of Referees, Pitches and Weather conditions to contend with. A strong team will be able to cope with missing players. Stop moaning and get on with it. I'm only hearing excuses! Stiofan (Meath) - Posts: 28 - 11/07/2019 12:41:39 2209450 Link 0 |
Stiofan. I don't know what to say to you. If you were following the thread the issue is to do with county footballers not being available for their hurling clubs and the abysmal way club hurling is fixed in meath. What in the name of god are you talking about rugby, weddings etc for. Foley91 (Meath) - Posts: 339 - 11/07/2019 22:34:45 2209734 Link 0 |
Lads know by now not to bother going by the builders holidays with the county board we have. Club championship games can be changed within 4 or 5 days of a game. We had lads that got caught last year changing holiday flights to accommodate games only for games to be changed on shorts notice and the miss them anyway. Lads losing interest and giving up is already happening. A few lads with children have stopped playing in my club anyway because of a pull between club and family. And who can blame them. As for the comment above you clearly are not from any of the smaller clubs in the county that struggle to get 15 lads for a big game and see 2 lads missing hurlinglad15 (Meath) - Posts: 36 - 12/07/2019 07:45:51 2209782 Link 0 |
So how many senior club football championship matches will be played without the county footballers? If you apply the logic you have done, why not play senior club football championship matches on the same weekend as the county football team is out. After all to quote yourself.......... "There are multiple reasons for not being available for Club Hurling (substitute football). I'm only hearing excuses!" ........Let me hear the excuses and uproar if senior clubs had to play senior football matches without their best players as they are playing with the county the day before or after. Let's control what we can.....football and hurling schedules. Don't remember when rugby and soccer, life choices or planning an injury came under the auspices of the GAA and our co board.

Apparently Navan O Mahonys v Boardsmill re fixed for tonight in Trim, any confirmation on this? No fixture on Meath Gaa website or Hoganstand. BrokenStickz (Meath) - Posts: 3 - 12/07/2019 12:45:15 2209920 Link 0 |
It must be a secret! But yes the re-fixture is on tonight - only championship game on this weekend so should have got more attention. If even just for the County Board to increase their gate No hurling fixtures out for next weekend yet even though planner has it down as hurling championship - are these not going ahead? Why wouldn't they? There is going to be some fixture pile-up from mid August and nothing played until then by looks of things Belt (Meath) - Posts: 205 - 12/07/2019 13:49:39 2209950 Link 0 |

Bank holiday weekend next round of hurling. See new planner is out with the clubs. StickFan (Meath) - Posts: 192 - 12/07/2019 23:36:57 2210180 Link 0 |
There's no shortage of Hurling referees in the county. The county board just won't give certain referees games. Acording to one referee he is sick of asking for games and is now going to referee camogie instead. latouche25 (Meath) - Posts: 325 - 13/07/2019 00:00:19 2210182 Link 1 |
Good result for the U20 hurlers. Well done to everybody. Kerry next weekend. Drive it on boys. StickFan (Meath) - Posts: 192 - 13/07/2019 20:31:16 2210353 Link 1 |
Not a hurling fan in meath as it is non existent in our area however this is some insult to the game in meath unless the referee in question had a last minute emergency
